Sarmatian material culture at its most exacting: rock crystal disciplined into the form of a dolphin, gold articulated into martial regalia, and turquoise and carnelian set against iron. The dolphin fibula from Crimea and the opulent dagger from the Datschi kurgan near Rostov belonged to an East Iranian aristocratic world in which craftsmanship, rank, and military authority were inseparable. These objects emerge from a world where the martial traditions of the steppe converged with the refined artistic vocabulary of the Iranian plateau. Period: 1st century BCE~ to 1 century CE.
