Cargo theft on the rise across European routes. Migration pressure at key border crossings. Military mobility requirements placing new demands on infrastructure built for freight. Rising freight volumes stretching a network already at its limits. These are the pressures Mirjam Frakulla put on the table as she moderated Panel II of the Wellbeing Days in Brescia: 'Secure Parking as Essential Infrastructure.' 🧡

Mirjam is EU funding specialist and senior project advisor at ESPORG — the person who coordinates access to European CEF funding for secure parking projects and has contributed to European Commission studies on the availability of truck rest and parking spaces across the EU.

Most people in this sector can describe the parking gap. Mirjam builds the financial pathway from the problem to the projects that close it. She turns wellbeing from an aspiration into funded, built infrastructure — and that is a contribution very few people in the room can make. 🛡️

A jar filled with written messages of appreciation for professional drivers. At the Wellbeing Days in La Jonquera, Druselia Betea introduced the "Gratitude Jar" — a mental resilience exercise designed to cut through the isolation that comes with life on the road. 🧡

As Head of Ewellin, the European Wellbeing Initiative launched in March 2025 with the support of the European Commission, Druselia brought both the campaign's vision and a concrete human moment to La Jonquera. Because the numbers alone don't tell the whole story: around 90% of professional drivers experience significant stress. But behind that figure are real people who often don't hear that what they do matters.

The campaign's formal tools — the Wellbeing Pledge with 150+ signatories, the Wellbeing Label in development — exist because Druselia knows that systemic change and individual recognition have to move together.

The Gratitude Jar is one of those moments that doesn't scale on a spreadsheet, but changes how a driver feels when they get back in the cab. 🛡️

"It's an investment in the future of transport." With these words, Marius Cae — President of USER — opened Romania's first-ever Wellbeing Days edition.

Under his leadership, Uniunea Societăților de Expediții din România - USER signed the Wellbeing Pledge in June 2025. And on 14 October, at this very event, USER became the first organisation in Romania to receive the Wellbeing Ambassador title from ESPORG. 🏆

When the president of USER puts driver wellbeing at the top of the agenda, it doesn't just set a tone for the day — it sets a direction for the whole sector.

Romania's transport industry has a new standard to meet. USER is leading from the front. 🟠

This is where it all began.

On 11–12 July 2025, Dirk Penasse — General Manager of ESPORG — opened Europe's very first Wellbeing event in Astigarraga, Spain. Just four months after the European Wellbeing Initiative launched in Brussels.

"Improving drivers' wellbeing is not just a moral responsibility — it's a strategic priority for the future of European road transport."

Everything that followed — Wellbeing Days Bucharest, OnTurtle, LeShuttle Freight, and beyond — started right here, in Astigarraga. 🟠

What if the wellbeing conversation started before a driver ever sat behind the wheel professionally? That is the question Manuel Picardi brought to Panel I of the Wellbeing Days in Brescia — as VP and Secretary General of EFA, the European umbrella organisation for national driving school associations. 🧡

Manuel addressed how younger generations of drivers think differently, and what real results come from introducing a dedicated wellbeing module from the very start of training: fatigue management, how to choose safe rest locations, healthy habits for a long career on the road.

In April 2026, EFA signed the Wellbeing Pledge and joined Ewellin — a formal commitment to embedding those modules into driving school programmes across Europe. EFA's network reaches schools across the continent. What gets taught at the beginning shapes what the whole profession considers normal for the next generation.

The most durable wellbeing intervention is the one that happens before it is ever needed. 🛡️
