NLA comments on the Council’s agreement on the Weights and Dimensions Directive: High-capacity transports are needed to stay competitive, efficient and sustainable
EU Member States have today reached a common position on the revised Weights & Dimensions Directive, an important step for more efficient and sustainable road transport.
”Europe needs an ambitious framework that allows heavier, longer and higher vehicle combinations nationally and across borders,” says Oscar Hyléen, CEO of the Swedish Association of Road Transport Companies and Chairman of NLA. “This is the most efficient way to cut fuel use, emissions and the number of trucks on the road.”
The agreement maintains national flexibility — crucial for us in the Nordic region, where high-capacity transport already operates safely across borders.
Torsten Laksafoss Holbek, CEO of NLA, adds: “We welcome that Member States support continued cross-border operations between consenting countries. This keeps road transport competitive and energy-efficient.”
As trilogue negotiations begin, NLA highlights the importance of incentives for zero-emission vehicles operating across border in Europe. “Compensation for lost payload is key for companies investing in electric trucks,” Hyléen concludes.
