Power Division, MPEMR, Bangladesh Power Division manages all matters, policies and activities related to the Power sector (generation, transmission and distribution ) in Bangladesh.

Universal access to quality electricity in a cost-effective and affordable manner. Mission:
Ensuring reliable electricity for all by 2021 through integrated development of power generation, transmission and distribution system. Major Functions:
1. All activities related to power generation, transmission and distribution;
2. Manage all matters and policies related to the Power sector;
3. Ex

pand, rehabilitate and modernize power generation, transmission and distribution services in line with the increasing national demand and prepare action plans and programs accordingly;
4. Encourage private and joint venture investment in the Power sector in addition to the government investment;
5. Improve the standard of living of the rural poor through rural electrification and the introduction of renewable energy;
6. Monitor revenue earnings and commercial activities of the utilities;
7. Promotion of renewable energy and energy efficiency through formulation of policy/regulation, different incentive mechanism and R&D.
