My opinion on this is, Why did they buy a big ass 777? Dont get me wrong here, Biman has a good maintenance record and is a decent company. But, at the price of this 777, you can buy a bigger number of smaller class airplanes, like a 737 ... They should start off low and go higher with the time, no...

2nd Boeing 777 joins the fleet

A Bigger, Younger and Aggressive Fleet Now. The 2nd Boeing 777 joined the fleet on 22 November

The 2nd of 04 Boeing 777s of Biman Bangladesh Airlines joins the fleet on 22nd November followed by the first one a month earlier. The milestone delivery marks the 2nd 777 directly purchased by Biman and is also Boeing’s 301st 777-300ER to roll out of its factory.

Delivery of Biman Bangladesh’s new 777-300ER will usher in a new era of commercial aviation for our nation. Biman Bangladesh Airlines continues to grow as a global airline and the 777-300ER will greatly enhance the long- haul network of the carrier.

The 777-300ER brings new twin-engine efficiency to the airline’s long-haul fleet. The airplane is powered by General Electric GE90-115BLs, the world’s largest and most powerful commercial jet engines.

“The 777-300ER is a great choice for Biman Bangladesh, as the 777’s high efficiency, spacious cabin and industry-leading reliability will combine to help the airline provide superior passenger experience and long-term growth,” said Ray Conner, senior vice president of Sales & Customer Support, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. “This is a historic moment for Biman Bangladesh Airlines and Boeing and we look forward to many more milestones ahead.”

The Boeing 777-300ER is 19 percent lighter than its closest competitor, greatly reducing its fuel requirement. It produces 22 percent less carbon dioxide per seat and costs 20 percent less to operate per seat. The airplane can seat up to 365 passengers in a three-class configuration and has a maximum range of 7,930 nautical miles (14,685 km). The 777 family is the world’s most successful twin-engine, twin-aisle airplane.

“The addition of the 777-300ER to our fleet exemplifies our commitment to delivering high quality service and comfort to our passengers,” said Air Commodore M. Zakiul Islam (Retd.), Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.

“The strong working together relationship that has now developed between Biman and Boeing is creating the foundation for stronger economic ties between Bangladesh and the United States,” said Miguel Santos, Director International Sales, Boeing Commercial Airplanes.

In 2008, the airline announced its decision to purchase 10 Boeing airplanes, including four 777-300ERs, four 787 Dreamliners and two Next Generation 737-800s. The order was significant for Bangladesh as it became the country’s largest capital goods deal.

With the advent of 4th generation new Boeing 777s, Biman’s ageing DC-10s will be phased out gradually. Biman’s Boeing 777 300ER has a capacity of carrying 419 passengers in two class configuration. The airline introduced non-stop services to London, Manchester, Rome, Milan and Kuala Lumpur with the newly procured Boeing 777 from 2nd November, 2011.
