💙 THE END OF AN ERA… AND THE START OF A NEW CHAPTER 💙
Today marks a very special and emotional milestone for Freedom Fast Cats, as we made our final ferry and tour run to Great Keppel Island.
From our very first day of trading on 1 January 1999, it has been an incredible 27+ years. What started all those years ago became so much more than ferries and tours – it became friendships, partnerships, familiar faces, countless memories and a huge part of our lives.
Freedom Fast Cats has always been a family affair. From Max Snr and Carmel, to Max Jnr, Mel and Chelsea, there have been plenty of early mornings, long days, late nights, laughs, challenges and unforgettable moments. We are incredibly proud of what our family, together with an amazing team of people, has built.
To every crew and staff member, past and present – thank you. You helped make FFC what it is and became part of our family along the way.
We would also like to acknowledge and thank the Woppaburra people, the Traditional Custodians of the Keppel Islands, for their connection to Woppa (Great Keppel Island) and the surrounding sea country we have had the privilege of travelling through for more than 27 years.
To the island residents and businesses, past and present – thank you for being such a huge part of our story. From the old resort days through to today's island community, including our friends at Tropical Vibes and Island Pizza, we've shared a lot of years and memories together.
A special thank you to our Rosslyn Bay community, including Keppel Bay Marina, GBRMPA, Water Police and Ampol, for being part of our journey over the years.
To our wonderful suppliers, and to Livingstone Shire Council, Capricorn Enterprise, Tourism and Events Queensland, Tourism Australia, our local agents and our many trade and tourism partners – thank you for your support over the years.
And most importantly, to the thousands upon thousands of passengers who have travelled with us – thank you. 💙
Whether it was your first trip to Great Keppel Island or your hundredth, a family holiday, school excursion, tour, wedding, Christmas party or simply another day in paradise, thank you for choosing Freedom Fast Cats and allowing us to be part of your memories.
And we couldn't possibly finish without mentioning Keppel Cat. 🐈💙 Our much-loved office cat became a little celebrity in her own right, particularly with our regular guests. We know plenty of you couldn't walk through the terminal without stopping for a pat!
While today marks the end of Freedom Fast Cats' regular ferry transfers and tours to Great Keppel Island, the services aren't disappearing. Ferry transfers and tours will continue with Keppel Ferry Co, and we're excited to see them carry this next chapter forward.
And Freedom Fast Cats isn't disappearing either. We are proudly keeping the Freedom Fast Cats name, but after 27+ wonderful years servicing Great Keppel Island, it's time to wind down this chapter and head in a different direction with our remaining passenger ferry fleet.
There are far too many people to thank individually, and we're bound to have missed someone. If you've worked with us, travelled with us, supplied us, supported us, recommended us, shared a laugh with us, given Keppel Cat a pat, or simply waved as one of our boats went past – thank you.
Thank you for being part of the Freedom Fast Cats story. 💙
