Woodend was another one of the local Brigades. Disappointing to see the Shire not supporting the local volunteers who are the First Responders in our local communities and beyond. The FEM (Fire Equipment Maintenance) is a valuable service provided by CFA Brigades and a valuable source of funds. This decision is a big loss to their funding.

❄️🔥 Electric Blanket Safety Reminder 🔥❄️

As the colder weather arrives, electric blankets can help keep you warm but it’s important to use them safely. 🛏️

✔️ Check your electric blanket for wear, frayed cords, scorch marks, or damage before use
✔️ Follow the manufacturer’s instructions
✔️ Turn it off before going to sleep, unless it is designed for overnight use
✔️ Never fold or tuck it in tightly while switched on
✔️ Store it flat or loosely rolled when not in use
✔️ Replace old or damaged blankets

⚠️ If in doubt, have it checked or replace it. Your safety comes first.

Stay warm and stay safe this winter. 💙

📸Friday Flashback........1974 Fire Station Shooting

Well, they can't say nothing happens in this small town...
"The Woodend Fire Station suffered damage when shots were fired through the windows on 20th February 1974. The two offenders were eventually caught and appeared before the court on 22 August 1974 charged with this and a number of other offences. A letter from the Criminal Investigation Branch of New Zealand Police said that one offender was sentenced to Detention Centre Training and the other was placed on probation for two years and ordered to do 200 hours community work. One of them was ordered to pay $6.25 restitution to the brigade to cover the damage to the station"*

It was a lucky escape early this morning for a family who woke to discover a fire burning in their garage.

Firefighters from the and FRNSW arrived quickly, with crews from Galston and Arcadia extinguishing the fire, which is believed to have been caused by an electric vehicle charger.

While there were no smoke alarms in the garage, a working smoke alarm in the hallway activated, allowing the family time to safely evacuate and giving firefighters a chance to extinguish the fire before it spread further into the home.

Remember it's important you have multiple smoke alarms installed throughout your home, particularly in areas where combustible materials may be present.

Yesterday Martinborough Volunteer Fire Brigade were called to a water tank on fire! 💧

How can that happen?

The homeowner had some ashes from their fireplace; they had waited a few days for them to cool before disposing of them in their compost bin next to the tank. Unfortunately a few days was not long enough!

🔥Hot tip: Ashes can take up 5 days to cool completely! We recommend hot ashes are emptied into a metal bin, water is poured over them and they are left to cool completely for 5 days.
