It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of James Dyson, a respected figure in the Australian freight and customs industry, and father of Dyson Logistics Owner & CEO, Kane Dyson.
Driven by a lifelong passion for aviation, James began his career with Ansett ANA in Sydney in 1955. He soon found his calling in customs brokerage, obtaining his Customs Agent licence in 1960 at just 23 years of age, believed to be one of the youngest licensed customs agents in NSW at the time.
In 1970, James established James D. Dyson Pty Ltd from a small settler’s cottage in Ewan Street, Mascot, building a highly respected customs agency founded on knowledge, integrity and hard work.
His deep expertise and commitment to the industry led to his appointment as Vice President of the Customs Brokers Council of Australia, earning the admiration and respect of colleagues and peers across the freight community.
Although James retired in 2005 after an incredible 50 years in the industry, his legacy and contribution to Australian customs and freight forwarding continue to be remembered.

The 2025–26 Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) risk season officially ends today, 1 May 2026.

For importers, this means:
Goods shipped from 1 May onwards are no longer subject to seasonal BMSB measures
Shipments sent between 1 Sept 2025 – 30 April 2026 still need to meet BMSB requirements, regardless of arrival date

A couple of important reminders:
Ro-Ro vessels will continue SPQ reporting through to 30 June
Inspections and master consolidator declarations may still apply where risk is identified

As always, compliance doesn’t stop overnight; timing and documentation still matter.

If you’re unsure how this impacts your shipments, we’re here to help.

Global supply chains are still feeling the effects of instability in the Middle East

Fuel costs, surcharges, and shipping schedules are continuing to shift, and while we’re starting to see small signs of easing, such as fuel levies, conditions are still changing week to week.

Need help navigating it? We’re here to help.

Due to the ongoing situation in the Middle East, we’re currently seeing disruption in key global shipping routes, which is putting upward pressure on costs and causing delays.

For Australian importers and exporters, that’s flowing through as higher freight and domestic transport rates, longer transit times, and heightened unpredictability.

Right now, the key is remaining flexible. Plan ahead, allow extra time, and stay close to your logistics provider so you can adjust quickly. Having visibility across your supply chain makes a big difference in times like this.

It’s a challenging environment, but with the right planning and support, businesses can absolutely navigate through it.

Our CEO, Kane Dyson, was approached by NBN Television yesterday for comment on the situation.

Local businesses are also feeling the strain of soaring fuel prices. Despite today's announcement of
