Rova Rides is sharing the GPHN post to further raise awareness about the impact of falls!

📊 Gippsland has the highest rate of accidental falls causing death of Australian PHNs, making fall prevention an important local health priority. 📊

April Falls Month raises awareness about the impact of falls and encourages open conversations, so people can access the right care and early interventions.

When you notice signs that an older person may be at risk - start the conversation and help them receive the support needed to stay independent, safe and steady on their feet.

Fuel Saving Tip #5 ⛽🚗 Fuel saving tip: aircon vs windows?

Did you know that how you use your aircon can affect fuel use?

Air conditioning does use fuel, but the most efficient option can depend on how fast you are driving. At lower speeds, driving with the windows down is often more fuel-efficient. At higher speeds, open windows can create more drag, so using the aircon may sometimes be the better option.

A few small habits can also help your aircon work more efficiently, like parking in the shade when possible and switching to recirculate mode once the cabin starts to cool down.

Small changes like this can add up over time.

Fuel Saving Tip #4 ⛽🚗 Remove heavy items to save fuel!

A great way to save on fuel is to remove extra weight from your car. Carrying heavy items you do not need can make your vehicle work harder and use more fuel. Clearing out the boot and only taking what you need for the trip can help improve fuel efficiency. Small changes like this can add up over time. Follow Rova Rides each week for simple and practical fuel-saving tips. 💛

Fuel Saving Tip #3 ⛽🚗 Fuel-saving tips for smoother driving!

Did you know that smooth driving can help reduce fuel use?

Rapid acceleration, harsh braking and speeding can all cause your vehicle to use more fuel. Driving steadily, slowing down gradually and keeping a consistent speed can help your tank go further.

It is a simple habit that can make a real difference over time.

Follow Rova Rides each week for practical fuel-saving tips to help make travel a little more affordable. 💛

Saving Tip #2 Check Tyre Pressure⛽🚗
One of the easiest ways to reduce fuel costs is to check your tyre pressure regularly. Tyres that are under-inflated can make your car work harder and use more fuel. Keeping them at the correct pressure can help improve fuel efficiency, keep you safer on the road, and reduce wear and tear. A quick check can make a big difference over time. Follow Rova Rides each week as I share simple tips to help reduce fuel costs and make travel a little more affordable.

Tip 1 to help save on fuel ⛽
Try not to fill up your tank during the hottest time of the day. Filling up in the morning or evening may help you get better value, especially in warmer weather.

Grateful to have attended the National Aged Care Provider Conference 2025 as a Board member of Carinya Lodge, alongside Joel (Co-CEO)Carinya Lodge, Frank Hoff (CEO, Hillview Aged Care Bunyip) and Shane Jenkins (CEO, Rose Lodge Wonthaggi).

With the new Aged Care Act and strengthened Quality Standards, the conference was a timely opportunity to hear directly from sector leaders about what safe, person-centred care must look like in this next era of reform.

The sessions on clinical governance were especially valuable — reinforcing the heightened role Boards and leadership teams now play in quality oversight, accountability, and risk monitoring. Just as importantly, there was a strong call to embed lived experience into decision-making, tackle ageism, and make diversity and cultural safety a core business function — not an add-on.

I’ve returned with practical strategies around consumer engagement, inclusive leadership, and governance planning that will support our work at Carinya in the months ahead.

At Rova Rides, this aligns deeply with why we exist — supporting older people to stay connected, attend appointments, and move through the community with dignity, safety and genuine care. 💚

Latrobe Community Health Service is offering a new, free aged care program funded by the Federal Government, called the Seniors Lifestyle Victoria (SLV) program.

The SLV program supports older Victorians who want to stay active, healthy, and independent. It is for people who are mostly in good health but may need a little extra help. This might include setting goals, looking after your health, or finding local activities to enjoy.

Steven Ross, Team Leader and Development Officer for the program, says the program focuses on long-term wellbeing.

“Our focus is on helping people reach their goals with supports that build strength, confidence, and independence,” he says.

“This helps people keep doing the things they love. For example, if someone loves gardening but is finding it difficult to do on their own, we can link them to a gardening club rather than relying on short‑term fixes like purchasing equipment or supports like raised garden beds."

The team is currently supporting a woman living with Parkinson’s disease. Together, with an SLV coordinator, the pair talked about her health and what mattered to her and made a six-month plan with clear goals and regular check-ins.

Now, she participates in tai chi and water aerobics classes to build strength and stay independent - activities she had always wanted to try but didn’t know where to start.

“It’s made a big difference to her health and wellbeing, as well as keeping her connected to a community of like-minded people.”

You may be able to join the SLV program if you:
- are aged 65 or over (or 50+ and identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander),
- live in the community (not in residential aged care),
- live within Baw Baw, Latrobe City, Bass Coast, South Gippsland or Wellington council areas (LGAs),
- and show changes in health that can affect your daily life such as reduced mobility, unplanned weight loss, or have had a recent fall

The Seniors Lifestyle Victoria program is free, and you can self-refer. To see if SLV is right for you or someone you care for, call 1800 242 696 or visit https://www.lchs.com.au/services/aged-care-and-carer-support/seniors-lifestyle-victoria-slv/
