We flew out to Okinawa to experience a different side of Japan - swapping the city life for a more relaxed island atmosphere. While the weather was a little overcast, the rain thankfully stayed away for most of our visit.

Our time was spent wandering through local markets, doing more than our fair share of shopping, exploring the famous Kokusai-Dori Street, and visiting the unique American Village, one of Okinawa’s most popular waterfront precincts.

💡 Fun Fact: American Village was built on the site of a former U.S. military base and was designed to recreate an American-style town. Today, it’s known for its colourful buildings, shopping, restaurants, and stunning sunset views over the East China Sea.

We’ve started venturing beyond the traditional Japan itinerary and added Fukuoka to our journey - not only to experience the birthplace of ramen, but also as the perfect base for exploring the beautiful region of Miyazaki.

One thing that has really surprised us about this part of Japan is the scenery. Around every corner there seems to be something incredible to discover. If you’re not driving past endless rice fields and mountain ranges, you’re stumbling across waterfalls, rivers, and some of the most picturesque landscapes we’ve seen so far.

Can confirm the ramen has certainly lived up to its hype down here in Fukuoka 🍜

Our time in Hiroshima was short, but it ended up being one of those places that really surprised us.

Visiting the Peace Memorial Museum was incredibly eye-opening and gave us a much broader perspective on the city’s history. What stands out most is how Hiroshima has rebuilt itself into such a vibrant and welcoming place, with a great atmosphere throughout the city.

Hiroshima also made the perfect base for a trip over to Miyajima Island. Even though the weather wasn’t exactly on our side, it didn’t stop us from exploring the town and venturing up to the top of the mountain via cable car. From deer roaming freely through the streets to delicious food stalls and plenty of local drinks, the island had such a relaxed and charming feel.

Did you know you can actually stay overnight on Miyajima Island and experience a traditional Japanese ryokan? Once the day-trippers leave, the island becomes much quieter, making it a unique way to experience one of Japan’s most iconic destinations.

Kyoto ⛩️🍃

We spent our first day wandering through the local flea markets next to a beautiful shrine before jumping on a boat and cruising down the Hozugawa River. The scenery was incredible and such a relaxing way to spend the afternoon.

Another day we explored the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest before tackling the hike up Fushimi Inari through the endless rows of red torii gates. A lot of steps, but absolutely worth it.

Kyoto is a perfect mix of city & nature all combined in the one spot 💫

One of the things we love most about Japan is the incredible contrast between its bustling cities and peaceful mountain regions.

After travelling by bullet train from Tokyo, we arrived in Takayama, a charming alpine town full of traditional character and stunning scenery. We spent the day taking in panoramic views from the Shinhotaka Ropeway before exploring the natural beauty of Kamikōchi – a destination that truly exceeded expectations.

The scenery was spectacular, the hiking trails were unforgettable, and yes, we even had one eye out for the local bears along the way! 🐻

Takayama is proof that some of Japan’s most memorable experiences can be found beyond the major cities, and we’re so glad we included it in our itinerary.

Next stop: Kyoto 🍵⛩️

Sapa - Vietnam

The final stage of Kelly’s vietnam & Cambodian journey had her group set off on the Chapa Express overnight sleeper train from Hanoi, arriving to Sapa the next morning.

What a way to complete this incredible journey. Sapa truly is a city amongst the clouds.

A scenic, high-altitude town in northwest Vietnam’s Lào Cai province, renowned for its dramatic rice terraces, misty mountains, and vibrant indigenous culture.

Our time here included a hike with the locals through Lao Chai and Ta Van villages, with many of the woman still wearing traditional clothing.

A visit to Silver Waterfall and breathtaking views from Heavens Gate, 2047m above sea level.

Sapa was nothing like I imagined, it was so much more. Vietnam has shown as such diversity in its landscape and people. A culture, in my travels, I believe to be one of the friendliest people in the world, proud to share their history and this spectacular country they call home. They are also bloody good cooks.

Halong Bay - Lan Ha Bay

Kelly’s group have spent the past 3 days/2nights sailing through the stunning limestone mountains of Halong and Lan Ha Bay. One of the new Seven Wonders of Nature, it is nothing short of spectacular.

Like all of Kelly’s personally curated journeys the ship for our group was handpicked and chartered for the sole use of our group. Sailing in luxury cabins, window bathtubs and delectable fine dining experiences onboard.

We’ve swam, kayaked, cycled through remote villages, enjoyed cooking demonstrations onboard and basically had an absolute blast.

Every single detail from hotels, tours, ships are handpicked, bringing together the ultimate travel experience for our clients. Getting to see this planning come to life and sharing it with our travellers is our ultimate reward.

It is also why our clients keep coming back for more italktravel Warners Bay personally curated journeys.

Don’t miss out on the next one.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Lest we forget 🇦🇺🇳🇿
