Part 2 of Coober Pedy were tried out opal noodling πŸ™Š .. we got ourselves a purple πŸ’œ light and went to the public noodling area and even got a few cool finds ! The tube looking one is a squid tube which was amazing to find.

We got to see a very experience opal cutter and he took us through the process of how he makes the pieces beautiful and ready for jewellery and just ready to sell. It was just us and him and he went into depth and really took the time to show the kids and let them be involved.

We saw a few other things around the town and went to the old timers mine!

Went out for a second night opal noodling - we felt much better prepared and went to a different area. It was a fun experience and we got to keep what we found as well ! We did this all on our own , no guide, as we were there out of season but we had such a great time..

Coober pedy brought some new experience, fun family activities and heaps of learning for us adults and the kids.
Top spot !

We made it to this amazing place !
Rolling up to Coober Pedy you see all the opal mining equipment in the distance and warning signs along the road to not go any further due to open cuts.
On our first day we went straight to the mine and museum and was absolutely incredible.. it was our first taste of the underground life in Coober Pedy.
The tour here showed the old timers way and also the new modern set up of the underground homes. There was tunnels and so much information. The kids had an awesome time and learnt so much too !

This is definitely a must do if you are heading to Coober Pedy !

We ended the day with a stunning sunset looking over the Big Miner πŸ§‘πŸ’›

Just one little spot between Glendambo & Coober Pedy.
We were coming through here when the roads were flooded therefore had to stop at a random camp while we waited for the water to subside. We were lucky and the same day we pulled up the roads opened but we decided to stay put until the morning to allow the trucks to get through and clear out from either side.

That night there was a blood moon! We got the best view being in the middle of no where with zero light pollution. We didnt get any photos as we were just soaking it up but we did end up setting up the camera for a starry sky shot.

Next day when we left we were only a little bit from the road closure area and they still only had 1 lane open which was shared. Anddddd the outback of SA is stunning after some rain and so green πŸ’š..

Until next time !

Just a little overnight stop here between Port Augusta & Coober Pedy..

Stunning views across the "lagoon" and absolutely beautiful sunset with the rugged landscape and water in the distance.

This was just a little gravel pit lookout area but was a top little spot for what it was.

We left the next morning heading towards Coober Pedy but had an unexpected delay with flooded roads but wait for the next post as that night we were in the middle of nowhere off the road down a little track and had the most stunning view of the night sky on a blood moon night πŸŒ™ πŸ‘Œ

But .. thats for the next post 🫣

Pink Lake

Oh my goodness, these couple of days its was so wet but we still wanted to go see Lake Bumbunga (Pink Lake).. although you cannot really see it here, it did have a pink tinge to it 🩷🩷..

We did a free camp here at Lochiel for the night then headed off again the day after.

Chocolate Factory & Cheese Shop
🀀🀀🀀🀀🀀🀀🀀🀀🀀

2 of our favourite things πŸ˜…

Melba's had an incredible assortment of choccies and we even got to taste a fresh jelly out of Turkish delight 🀀

& Woodside Cheese had some tastings and lots of types to choose from.

We left with a bag from each place and also had a nice hot choocy from the Melbas Cafe !

These are up in the hills of Adelaide and definitely worth a visit to if you head up that way !

&& Finished the day with a stunning sunset ..

We stayed on the beach front and saw this little fella just a small walk up the beach. 🦭
The water is so clear down here in SA 🩡

This is where we were going to settle in for a bit do some exploring of South Australia as neither of us had been here before.. My mumma came to visit and had a nice couple of days - things changed pretty quickly with the passing of my dad unexpectedly so plans changed and we headed back up north.
We do get to tick a few more big bucket list places off on the way back up but its definitely a reminder that anything can happen to change plans etc but living in the moment and taking a day at a time is all you can do..

Our caravanning journey since August 2024 has been full of changes and one day we will get to WA - hopefully soon but for now come as we travel up the centre of Aus from SA to NT and back into FNQ..

P O R T N O A R L U N G A

Spent the day out snorkelling, swimming, playing in the sand and jumping off the jetty.

This was an absolute blast.
We did have some crappy weather prior to this day so unfortunately the water was a little cloudy but still had a lovely time.

Some spectacular views from the jetty back to land and also along the reef.
