πŸ”₯ Hazard Reduction Burn Reminder – Silverlight Reserve πŸ”₯

NSW RFS crews will commence a hazard reduction burn at Silverlight Reserve at 0900 tomorrow, Saturday 2 May.

Hazard reduction is an important tool in preparing for bush fires, but it does not remove the risk entirely. Residents are reminded to remain prepared and stay aware of local conditions.

What to expect and how to prepare:
β€’ Smoke will be visible in the area and may impact nearby communities
β€’ Keep doors and windows closed to reduce smoke entering your home
β€’ Bring outdoor furniture under cover to prevent ember damage
β€’ Retract pool covers
β€’ Remove washing from clotheslines
β€’ Ensure pets have access to a sheltered area

If travelling near the burn area:
β€’ Slow down
β€’ Turn headlights on
β€’ Keep windows up
β€’ Do not stop to observe – for your safety, keep clear of operations

Health advice:
If you have asthma or a lung condition, limit outdoor activity if smoke is present. If symptoms such as shortness of breath or coughing occur, follow your medical plan or seek advice.

For further health information, visit NSW Health or Asthma Australia.

This burn is weather dependent and may change at short notice.

πŸš’ Thank you for your cooperation.

From Sunday 1 March, fire permits will be available for residents within the Coolamon, Wagga Wagga, Lockhart and Junee LGAs.

If you’re planning to burn, please make sure you understand and comply with the permit conditions:

βœ… No burning before 2pm
βœ… Fires must be fully extinguished before being left unattended
βœ… A 3 metre fire break must be in place around the burn
βœ… A minimum of 2 fire units, each with at least 1,000 litres of water, must be on site
βœ… No burning of timber

These conditions are in place to help protect our communities, our volunteers, and your property.

To apply for a permit and submit your notification, please use the NSW RFS online Fire Permit & Notification Portal:
πŸ‘‰ https://nswrfsprod.service-now.com/guardian_csp

If you need to conduct a burn, apply early and ensure you’re properly prepared before lighting up.

Let’s work together to keep our region safe. πŸ”₯

Structure fire Uranquinty

Shortly after 1pm today Uranquinty, The Rock and Lake Albert received a call to a structure fire in Uranquinty.

Uranquinty arrived and confirmed a fire had occured due to a lithium battery charging.

Quick and effective action from the property owner by closing the door and compartmentalising the fire and turning off the power at the mains saw the damage being limited to the one room.

Uranquinty attended to the owners before ambulance treatment and awaited the arrival of a Breathing Appartus crew from The Rock to confirm no fire extension had occured.

Lake Albert crew assisted in ventilating the building before handing back to the owners.

Please while batteries are charging remain at home and remain vigilant as these type of fires can spread rapidly.

This home was saved due to the quick action of the owners.

Thanks to both The Rock and Lake Albert for your assistance.
