Happy 150th birthday to the historic Cape Jaffa in South Australia for last Saturday.

The iconic light station, which has proudly stood in the Kingston South East region since January 15, 1872, deserves to be celebrated for its rich maritime history.

We supported community celebrations to honour the heritage lighthouse which was moved from Cape Jaffa to Marine Parade, Kingston, in 1976 and converted to a museum.

Birthday festivities included exhibitions of archival material such as logbook excerpts and construction plans from the National Archives of Australia.

It was uplifting to see the foreshore lighthouse illuminated during the celebrations, just as it did each night at its original position on Margaret Brock Reef.

While Cape Jaffa Lighthouse was decommissioned several decades ago, we maintain a close connection with the tower as well as manage 62 similar heritage-listed lighthouses around the country. We recognise the importance of safeguarding this legacy.
