Wildlife Wednesday!!

This is ‘Baby No Leaf’, the male Koala suffering from conjunctivitis, which is a symptom of chlamydia.

You can see this poor Koala’s eyes are infected and inflamed. Sadly, this disease can lead to blindness.

Vet Nurse Jasmine and team are treating this Koala with a course of antibiotics over a period of 4-6 weeks.

‘Baby No Leaf’ will also be vaccinated against chlamydia which will assist in preventing him from contracting the disease again.

In many regions of South East Queensland, infection rates have been recorded as high as 70% of wild populations.

The team at Currumbin Wildlife Hospital are asking for your help as we brace for Koala Trauma Season.

It costs an average of $7000 to treat, rehabilitate and release a single Koala.

With around 400 Koalas admitted to Currumbin Wildlife Hospital every year, the cost is enormous.
