We are deeply disappointed to announce the cancellation of Burton Automotive Hunter Valley Steamfest 2022 ➡ https://mait.city/SteamfestCancellation2022

The ongoing flood event in Maitland and the Hunter Valley has resulted in damage to infrastructure, including the local rail network, as well as limited access to other key event sites, such as the Rally Ground and Maitland Park.

With this being the fourth cancellation since March 2020, trust us when we say this decision isn’t one that is made lightly, and we share your disappointment. However, given the extent of the flood damage, our ability to deliver this year’s event, our 35th anniversary, is severely limited, with repair work and recovery expected to take many months.

We would like to recognise and appreciate the significant work and support of our event partners and community groups who contribute so much to Hunter Valley Steamfest.

Hunter Valley Steamfest will return in 2023 on 22 and 23 April to celebrate its belated 35th anniversary.

Ticket holders for 2022 will be contacted in the coming weeks, with information on how they can either receive a refund of their tickets or transfer them across to our 2023 dates.

We hope to see you all then.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

It has come to our attention, that people have been entering the yard and rail corridor of South Maitland Railways.

Whilst we appreciate the interest in the history of South Maitland Railways, you are entering PRIVIATE PROPERTY without authorisation.

The line is still active, with Machine testing and Rail Inspections. The Rail Corridor should not be entered unless you have authority from South Maitland Railways for work purposes only.

ANYONE found entering the SMR Rail Corridor or Yard without authorisation will be reported to the Police for Trespassing.

UPDATE
SMR No.10 and No.18 locomotives

Since the anniversary of SMR in 2018 it has been the intention of Hunter Valley Training Company (HVTC) to gift No’s 10 and 18 locomotives to a standalone organization. This organisation will be known as the ‘10 Class Locomotive Limited’ and will own and manage these locomotives.

We believe it is an appropriate time to update those of you who may be interested, as this setup process is nearing completion.
The establishment of 10 Class Locomotive Ltd would not have been possible without the considerable time, effort and financial support provided by the HVTC, which still continues.

To date the following milestones have been reached.
• The company is registered in NSW.
• Articles of Association & Statement of Purposes have been adopted.
• Two bank accounts have been setup. One for the receipt of DGR funds (statutory requirement) and one operating account.
• Three Directors have been appointed. Two from HVTC and one from SMR.
• 10 Class Locomotive Limited has been listed on the Register of Cultural Organisations. The company can receive tax deductible donations as a deductible gift recipient (DGR).

Currently being developed are:
• Business plan.
• Accounting and administration systems.
• Website.
• Policy and procedures.
• Board, sub committees and volunteer structure.

We appreciate this has been coming for a long time and is likely to take another six months, but the overriding goal is to get it right the first time, so those who wish to be a part of the company can walk into a structural sound and viable organisation.

No doubt there are many questions, which can be answered over the coming months as we refine the details of the company.

At this time information will be provided by SMR.

Adjoining the Main Northern Rail (MNR) line at Telarah, our southern end adjoins track at Cessnock, owned and operated by the Austar Coal Mine. In addition to this, there are 2 yards and various sidings located at EGJ.
