A friendly reminder that paid parking has recommenced in some areas of the Tamworth CBD following the installation of new ticketless and cashless parking meters. Here are some things to keep in mind:

πŸš— If you exceed the signposted time limit you must move your vehicle, in both paid and unpaid zones

πŸš— All council-owned off-street parking is now free to park in all day, this includes the entirety of the Community Centre Car Park, the Hands of Fame Car Park, White Street Car Park and both Ray Walsh House Car Parks.

πŸš— The Town Hall Car Park and Regional Playground Car Park are Free but a 3 Hour time restriction applies.

πŸš— Parking in the CBD costs $1.20 per hour, however you can choose to pay in 15 minute increments at the meter, or one minute increments using the EasyPark app, which means you only pay for how long you stay

πŸš— Paid parking on Peel Street is Monday to Friday 8:30am - 6pm. Time limits still apply on weekends; however, you DO NOT need to pay (as can be seen on the signs in the photo)

πŸš— Paid parking in other areas of the CBD differs to Peel Street and drivers should take note of signage before leaving their vehicle

πŸš— Please be mindful of the various loading zones located throughout the Tamworth CBD and remember that these are strictly designated for vehicles who are loading/unloading goods which support our local businesses

πŸš— If your vehicle displays a valid Mobility Parking Scheme (MPS) permit, you DO NOT need to pay for parking regardless of whether you park in a disabled space or a regular space

πŸš— A number of new disabled parking bays have been installed in the CBD. Each bay has been installed with a marked β€œshared space” beside it. These β€œshared spaces” are not for parking and are designed to assist those entering/exiting their vehicle

πŸš— Although we are using more technology now to assist with parking enforcement, Parking Rangers will still inspect vehicles that have been flagged as a potential overstay or not paying, before issuing an infringement

πŸš— Revenue raised through parking infringements is invested back into maintaining and upgrading parking infrastructure throughout the region.

🏍️ There are 10 free all-day motorcycle parking spaces located in the Town Hall Car Park, just off Fitzroy Street.

There will be a continued rollout of minor changes across our parking network so please be aware of the signage applicable to the parking bay that you are using.

With the forecast for 20-40mm of rain today and similar tomorrow (and for potential isolated falls of up to 60mm), the Bureau of Meteorology have advised there is potential for the Peel River at Tamworth to hit Moderate flooding over the next 24 hours.

The Peel River is expected to hit Minor Flooding (3.0m) late Wednesday night into early Thursday morning and Moderate Flooding (4.2m) around 11pm Thursday evening.

If the moderate flood level is reached, we expect to see some road closures around the area.

Please remember to drive to the conditions and never enter flooded roads or causeways.

If you do need assistance from the NSW SES, give us a call on 132 500, or if your situation is an emergency call 000.

As Australian business continues to stare down the barrel of a cost-of-doing-business crisis, the best vote is an informed vote which is why we are hosting a live and unscripted β€œMeet the Candidates” event on Wednesday 23 April at 5.30pm at Tamworth Town Hall.

This is a unique opportunity to hear directly from those vying for your vote on election day. With a facilitated discussion, we will dive into the key issues that matter most to business leaders and owners.

There is no doubt that if we want to see Tamworth and the New England continue to grow, we need to understand who has the best interests of our community in mind; who best understands the issues we face in regional Australia; who will advocate strongly on our behalf, and importantly, what policies underpin their position.

The Forum is free to attend and will be professionally moderated by 88.9fm Tamworth Radio Jim Booth and morning radio show host, Matt β€œMacCa” McCarthy. It will also be livestreamed to the wider New England electorate for those communities without a candidate debate.

Candidates will each be given the opportunity to introduce themselves and outline their policy platforms before being asked a series of questions by the MC’s followed by questions from the floor. We are pleased to confirm that 6 out of the 7 candidates have confirmed their attendance.

For updates on candidate participation and where to view the livestream, visit www.tamworth.org.au.
