INCREDIBLE to say the least.
Amazing 40 years to FNAs Maree - a pioneer for Flight Nurse Practitioners and a true icon of RFDS QLD. 🙌🏼

Today, the College of Emergency Nursing Australasia recognises Maree Cummins and her remarkable contribution to emergency nursing, rural and remote health, and aeromedical retrieval.

Maree has spent approximately 40 years in the emergency profession, with much of her career dedicated to aeromedical retrieval. She began her career working in hospitals in Brisbane and Mount Isa before embarking on a long-term career with the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia Queensland Section.

This year, Maree celebrates 35 years of employment with RFDS Queensland, having begun in Mount Isa and now working from the RFDS Brisbane Base.

Maree was one of the first Flight Nurses employed by RFDS Queensland, and more recently has been part of the trial introducing the Nurse Practitioner Aeromedical role within the organisation.

A CENA member for over 20 years, Maree's commitment to the profession extends beyond her clinical work to her long-standing connection to the emergency nursing community.

For nurses starting their careers in emergency care, Maree highlights the breadth of opportunity available across the profession - not only in major regional and tertiary facilities, but also in rural and remote communities. She points to the value of postgraduate professional development in enabling nurses to work to their full capacity and authorised scope of practice, providing evidence-based and timely care to patients no matter where they live or work.

"Working with great multidisciplinary teams makes it a pleasure to come to work. Most importantly, being able to help our patients is the greatest reward."

Thank you, Maree, for your leadership, service and lasting contribution to emergency nursing and aeromedical care!
