Proposed New Site Location-Callan Park Regional Skate Park

Inner West Council's planned skate park in Callan Park has hit a speed bump - the DA submitted by Council was declined by the NSW Heritage Council.

Why? Because the proposed location would affect the heritage significance of Callan Park Conservation Area and Buildings and harm its picturesque landscape character.

SO - after further meetings with the Office of the Environment and Heritage, we have proposed a new site.

It has good visual surveillance, accessible access and proximity to transport services (see below).

Our design team is now currently in the final throes of locking in the concept - which differs a little from the original.

Once this is completed, we'll prepare a pre Development Application for discussion and presentation to the Heritage Council.

Then a new Development Application for the site will be lodged...

So things are looking good for the skatepark to be built within the next 12 months (this financial year)!

The final hurdle is getting State Government to release the parkland to Local Government. Please help this speed along by asking our State Member Jamie Parker to get the gears of change happening!

As you are aware, the battle for a Skatepark in the Leichhardt Council LGA has been on an ongoing saga for over a decade.

The accumulative efforts of all involved in this project has seen us reach what could now be our final hurdle. After many years of extensive and exhaustive research, workshops, surveys and meetings with council, residents and industry professionals, Callan Park has been found to be the most suitable location for a Regional Skatepark.

We would like to encourage you to consider taking action to improve our situation by fast tracking an agreement between State and Local governments regarding the construction of a Regional Skatepark in Callan Park, Rozelle.

We are so close! Council will vote this Tuesday on whether the Callan Park Skate Space happens! Please come and join us on Tuesday at Leichhardt Town Hall from 6.30pm as we band together to show Council the massive community support this project has. Please share this around to any Sydney folk keen on a new skatepark!

This Tuesday 28th April @6:30pm in the Leichhardt Town Hall in Marion street, Leichhardt Council will consider the adoption of an exhibited concept for the Callan Park Regional Skate Park.. If you support the project and want to see it happen please come along and lend your support to the project. An image of the concept design recommended for adoption is provided below
