What a mammoth few weeks for the TENEX team.

Port Pirie, Coonamia and Port Augusta for turnout renewals and removals, level crossing renewals in Two Wells and Mallala, undercutting in the Adelaide Hills, assisting with bridge works in Mount Waverley and Tungamah, private siding maintenance in Kilmore East and most recently, assisting with structural underpass works at Seymour Station and the Inland Rail works just out Seymour.

We’re not lifting the foot off the pedal just yet either! Barely a spare day left on the calendar for the rest of the FY…

A massive thanks to those who support us in the delivery of these varied works.

A few snaps from around the country for you to enjoy.

One can’t help but admire the engineering marvels of tri-gauge turnouts. This example here is preserved at the National Rail Museum in Adelaide. A big thanks for the team for close up look at this treasure again!

A keen eye will spot 4x V crossings and 2x K’s in the one turnout, whilst the turnout in the background is marginally simpler (tri gauge down the straight, dual gauge to the left).

Shout out to Luke and his team of boys at ETA Heavy Haulage.

When the chips are down, these guys always seem to find a way to deliver. Several years of service and many tens of thousands of kilometres of plant transport provided with not even a single instance of being late or scratched bit of gear.

Great team with helpful, caring/careful drivers and just all round top notch service.

Be a 10/10 rating with a few Mack’s towing the trailers!!!

Thanks boys, your efforts don’t go unnoticed.

Thanks guys! But it really was our pleasure to be able to assist in your time of need.

We take an enormous amount of pride in giving back to our community in times of need, knowing full well that our community generally can’t support us in return due to the nature of the services we provide.

After a busy couple weeks for the team undercutting, Unit 8 and Unit 12 are in for a couple of tyre rotations and a couple of new shoes too, among other little maintenance items.

Inside the workshop, Unit 15 and a couple of the TENEX utes are also receiving a bit of TLC to keep them in tip top shape…

Time to wear out another set of tyres 🚜 💨

A post for the non railway people…

Dual Gauge. What is it? Speaking purely about Broad Gauge (5ft 3in- 1600mm) and Standard Gauge (4ft 8.5in- 1435mm), in the 1800’s the states/colonies were unable to get their backsides into gear and agree on a common gauge across the nation. Fast forward well over a century and in some places the need has arisen for trains of both gauges to run on the same track, hence the need for ‘Dual Gauge’ track. The single rail (called the common rail) is used by both Broad and Standard gauge trains, whilst the two other rails are only used depending on which gauge train is needing to pass through.

In the video below you’ll see a newly installed set of second hand switches being tested and adjusted by one of the TENEX team. Note: the presence of the 3 switches where a conventional, single gauge turnout would only have 2.
