📌What Not to Do When Travelling Your Horse: A Quick Checklist
🚚Avoid High Protein Feeds: Be sure to take your horse off high-protein food a few days before travel. Instead, feed them plenty of bulk (hay) to keep them settled and comfortable.
🚚Timing is Key: Do not travel your horse immediately after a hard race, competition, stressful event, or if they have recently been ill. Give them time to recover.
🚚Keep Us Informed: Always let us know about any recent health issues or bad travel habits your horse may have had. This helps us provide the safest and most comfortable trip.
🚚Skip the Gear: Avoid using tail guards or leg wraps for long-haul travel. Also, please inform us if your horse has been given salines, tranquilizers, sedatives, or other medication prior to the trip.
🚚Special Space Needs: If your horse is larger or needs extra room, make sure to let us know in advance.
🚚Hoof Care: Don’t schedule a hoof trim or have shoes removed right before travel if your horse is normally shod. This could cause discomfort during the journey.
🚚Post-Travel Monitoring: Keep a close eye on your horse after travel to watch for any signs of travel sickness or other issues.
🤎Safe travels start with good preparation!
