Thanks to all that stopped by today at the Coffs Harbour Seniors Expo to speak with Trish and I about all the exciting tours we have coming up in 2026/27. Also for all the many questions and interest shown. We had fun chatting to some regular travellers as well as meeting new future ones as well.

Day 8 — our final day of the Festival of Outback Opera Tour 🎶

Today we farewelled Moree and began our journey home, passing the racecourse mural fencing as we made our way back east.

Our morning tea stop was at Warialda, where we enjoyed quite the feast — biscuits, chocolates, cheese, crackers, and plenty of chatter. From there, we continued to Glen Innes for a beautiful fresh-cut sandwich lunch at The Stone Restaurant at Glen Innes RSL, with some wonderful memorabilia to browse while we were there.

As we descended the Gibraltar Range, the scenery was magnificent after all the recent rain — lush, green, and almost rainforest-like. It was a stunning contrast to the wide-open landscapes we had been travelling through.

Sadly, we also left behind the warm western weather, swapping mid-to-high twenties for grey skies, drizzle, and a chilly 16 degrees! A comfort stop at Macca’s in South Grafton gave everyone a final stretch before we began our drop-offs and farewells.

It is always bittersweet saying goodbye at the end of a tour. Over the past eight days, strangers have become friends and friends have become our travelling family.

🎭🌾 Festival Of Outback Opera Tour – Day 7 🌾🎭

This morning we farewelled Mitchell and our energetic host Suman as we crossed back into NSW on our journey to Moree. But not before another wonderful day of true outback hospitality and fascinating stories.

Morning tea was enjoyed beside the beautiful Balonne River in St George before we made our way to the incredible Riversands Winery. What an experience this turned out to be!

Owner David met us amongst the vines and jumped onboard the coach to personally guide us through the vineyard. We learnt all about the hard work behind every bottle of wine — from pruning and picking to battling floods, droughts and everything Mother Nature throws at them. Watching the end-of-season pruning demonstration certainly gave everyone a new appreciation for just how much effort goes into growing grapes. One passenger summed it up perfectly… “I’ll never complain about the price of grapes again!”
We also learnt about the amazing team who work the vines, many of whom are from Tonga whom their families help with the enormous workload.
Back at the cellar door we were treated to homemade pumpkin soup before settling in for a fabulous wine tasting. A friendly battle emerged between David and Cecile (the French backpacker) over whose wines would win the most votes… and after plenty of laughs, Cecile claimed victory — complete with an enthusiastic “Aussie Aussie Aussie!” chant! 🇦🇺🍷
Freshly made sandwiches, caramel slice, tea and coffee topped off a truly memorable visit. Safe to say the cellar door did very good business, but thankfully “The Beast” had plenty of room for everyone’s purchases! 🚍🍷

The coach became suspiciously quiet after we left Riversands… hmmm 🤔😂

After a comfort stop along the way we arrived in Moree and checked into the Burke & Wills for our final night together. Tonight’s “last supper” featured a choice of roast, snapper or pasta, followed by pavlova or pecan pie — a pretty perfect way to spend our final evening together.

But as we always say… it’s never goodbye, it’s simply until we meet again ❤️
