Parking reform is not just about removing rules. It is about replacing bad rules with better management.

Ending a parking minimum can remove a major barrier to housing, small businesses, and adaptive reuse.

But that does not mean parking suddenly stops mattering.

Busy places still need to manage curb demand. Businesses need loading. People with disabilities need reliable access. Residents may need permits. High-demand spaces may need pricing or time limits. Cities need to understand where parking is actually being used and where it is sitting empty.

The goal of parking reform is not to replace one simplistic answer with another.

It is to move from “every project must build X spaces” toward policies that respond to the actual needs of a place.

Less mandate. Better management.

Suggestion - let’s build many more modal filters and median strips, just like on Canning Street, to provide many more pleasant neighbourhood spaces across greater Melbourne!

Because if council doesn’t reverse it, we will reverse it for them.
