K'gari is the largest sand island in the world, stretching over 120 kilometres in length and 22 kilometres at it's widest point. Made entirely of sand accumulated over hundreds and thousands of years, the island is a natural wonder with ancient rainforests growing directly from the sand, crystal clear freshwater lakes like Lake McKenzie, and towering sand dunes. It's size and unique ecosystems make it a World Heritage listed site and a truly extraordinary place to explore.

Coongul Creek has long been a favourite destination for campers looking to experience a quieter side of K'gari. Tucked along the island's western coastline it's one of the best places to enjoy spectacular sunsets, calm waters and some fantastic fishing. It's also a great base for exploring the island's remote western beaches and taking in the incredible scenery of the Great Sandy Strait.

Camping sites at Coongul Creek are often among the first to book out - especially during weekends and school holidays. If you're dreaming of waking up here don't leave it until the last minute. Book your camping permit well in advance and lock in your slice of paradise before someone else does!

Happy Saturday!

From above it's easy to see why Wathumba Creek is considered one of K'gari's most breathtaking destinations. Vibrant turquoise and sapphire waters contrast beautifully with crystal white sand creating a landscape almost too beautiful to be real!

Located on K'gari's western coast, Wathumba Creek is a peaceful haven of untouched wilderness and one of the island's lesser visited gems. It's a favourite spot for fishing and wildlife watching with turtles, rays and an abundance of birds also calling the area home.

If you have a little extra time to get off the beaten track, Wathumba Creek is well worth a visit!

Happy Friday!

You can spot some pretty impressive things on your barge ride to K'gari - turtles, rays and rainbows. 🌈

And that's before you've even set foot on the island! The short trip across from Inskip Point to Hook Point is a pretty good start to a day or week of exploring everything K'gari has to offer.

Heading over soon? Make sure your barge ticket is sorted before you arrive, then all you need to do is turn up, line up and get ready for island time 🚙 🌴 Jump online and grab yourself a ticket https://mantarayfraserislandbarge.com.au/tickets/

Tucked away amongst the towering satinay forests of K'gari, Lake Allom is one of the island's most peaceful freshwater lakes. Famous for its resident freshwater turtles, this picturesque lake is the perfect place to slow down, soak up the serenity and enjoy the sounds of nature. A boardwalk leads visitors through the lush rainforest to the lake's edge, where you can take in the crystal clear water and, if you're lucky, spot a turtle gliding around!

Make sure to add it to your to see list! Happy Wednesday!

Driving on K'gari's beaches is part of what makes a trip to the island so magical. If you haven't driven on the beach before here a few tips:

4WD Only ➡ K'gari is strictly 4WD accessible - make sure your vehicle is high clearance and suited for sand.

Be prepared ➡ take some recovery gear such as a sn**ch strap, recovery tracks and shovel.

Time it right ➡ it is best to drive on the beach 2 hours either side of the low tide. When the tide is out you will have more beach, with firmer sand to drive on. You will also be able to travel on the beach around Hook Point instead of having to take the inland track (which bypasses the point but is slow and bumpy)

Lower tyre pressure ➡ 18-20psi is usually recommended.

Follow tracks ➡ stick to established wheel ruts, they're usually firmer and safer.

Obey road rules ➡ All QLD road rules apply and are enforced. Do not speed- washouts

Team Up ➡ if you travel with another vehicle they can provide assistance with recovery efforts.

Enjoy the adventure! Happy Tuesday 🚙😀

Did you know when you book your barge ticket you do not make a reservation for a time slot? Whether you buy your ticket online or with us here in the office, when you have your ticket you can drive to the barge and jump on the next available.

The best beach driving times are two hours either side of the low tide. Giving you a nice wide beach with plenty of firm sand to drive on. You'll also be able to get around Hook Point at the very south of K'gari.

Our first barge departs Inskip at 6.00am and final barge of the day departs Inskip at 4.45pm - we look forward to welcoming you on board.

Happy Monday 😀
