The coloured sands of K'gari and Rainbow Beach are among the most striking natural wonders along Queensland's coastline. The sand cliffs, including the famous Pinnacles on K'gari showcase more than 70 different colours ranging from rich reds and oranges to bright yellow and whites. These formations were created over thousands of years as wind and rain gradually eroded the sand dunes exposing layers stained by minerals such as iron and clay. Together with pristine beaches and crystal clear lakes, the coloured sands of Rainbow Beach and K'gari offer a truly unique and unforgettable experience for every visitor.

Here's some Wongari (dingo) Do's and Dont's thanks to the QPWS website:

🐕 Do keep kids within arm's reach
🐕 Do carry a safety stick
🐕 Do keep your distance from dingoes
🐕 Do dispose of rubbish correctly
🐕 ❌ Don't run
🐕 ❌ Don't be alone
🐕 ❌ Don't feed or interact with dingoes
🐕 ❌ Don't bring food or have picnics on the lake shore or beach

Feeding dingoes including leaving food and food scraps where they can get them, can cause them to become aggressive towards people in search of it. The best you can do is to keep them living wild and appreciate them from a distance!

Another magical day at Inskip Point 😍 Did you know K'gari is only a quick 15 minute hop, skip and sail away! Once you have your ticket purchased either online or from our office you can drive straight to the barge and jump on the next available - no need to book a time slot!

To drive in the K'gari or Cooloola Recreation Areas you must obtain a vehicle access permit (VAP) before entering. Make sure you have your vehicle registration correct as it is checked by vehicle recognition cameras. Rangers regularly monitor compliance and fines apply for entering without a valid permit. Costs vary depending on the park and length of stay. Mantaray Barge office is an agent for Queensland National Parks and can book both vehicle or camping permits.

Call in and see us at 66 Rainbow Beach Rd - attached to the new Caltex service station. We are open 6am - 4pm Monday to Fridays and 6am to 2pm Saturdays! Barge tickets, permits, snacks and fuel all in one stop 🤘😁

Driving on K'gari's beaches is part of what makes a trip to the island so magical. If you haven't driven on the beach before here a few tips:

4WD Only ➡ K'gari is strictly 4WD accessible - make sure your vehicle is high clearance and suited for sand.

Time it right ➡ it is best to drive on the beach 2 hours either side of the low tide. When the tide is out you will have more beach, with firmer sand to drive on. You will also be able to travel on the beach around Hook Point instead of having to take the inland track (which bypasses the point but is slow and bumpy)

Lower tyre pressure ➡ 18-20psi is usually recommended.

Follow tracks ➡ stick to established wheel ruts, they're usually firmer and safer.

Obey road rules ➡ All QLD road rules apply and are enforced. Do not speed- washouts are sometimes hard to see until you are right on top them.

Be prepared ➡ take some recovery gear such as a sn**ch strap, recovery tracks and shovel.

Team Up ➡ if you travel with another vehicle they can provide assistance with recovery efforts.

Tukkee Wurroo (Indian Head) marks K'gari's most eastern point and is impossible to miss as you cruise up the beach. With its rugged cliffs and rocky outcrops, it's a standout feature of the coastline. While the walk to the top is closed due to erosion, it's still worth slowing down and taking it all in - the views are impressive even from a distance, and it remains one of the island's most iconic landmarks. 📸🤘
