As a lot of you know - I made the huge and difficult decision to downscale my apiary this year. The bees are still the driving force behind everything I do. They are a part of my being. I feel their hum in my chest as I go about my day to day activities. I will never not be that "bee lady".. I am still offering mentoring & education & operating the shop every Thursday but by downscaling my apiary it opened up a lot more time for me to focus on myself, my business, upskilling, trying new things and new opportunities. It's quite difficult for me to work with other organizations as their values & way of doing business need to align with mine. Rosewood Wild Therapy has always ticked those boxes and I'm excited and honored to take on this new role with them.

A lot of you have been curious about why I am selling my honey bee hives, and I thought I'd better explain!
Firstly, I'm not selling all of them, I am keeping just enough that working with them becomes joyful, not work & enough to support my learning journey so that I can continue to provide mentoring. I don't know everything, they still have a lot to teach me & that really excites me.
When I first got into bees, I started studying and working with native bees - I was and am still very passionate about them but somehow I got a little lost along the way and fell heavily into the honey bee world. I've noticed when people think of bees or pollination, it's honey bees that come to mind, understandably, they are efficient little things, that are resilient and hardy and dahm they do an incredible job, but they are a dominant species that I too often see taking up hollows where native hollow dwellers could be and that just doesn't sit well with me (do your swarm management people!!!) I also think native bees are underrated pollinators. Growing up, my dad would say to me 'you're the only person you have to sleep with at night' meaning, if you're doing something or making a decision that keeps you up at night, maybe you need to re-assess. Working with honey bees is keeping me up at night. So I made the decision to put my energy and money into something that gives me a good night sleep. So, with every honey bee hive I sell, I purchase another native bee hive. I want to increase the native bee population and maybe one day, I'll even sell some. Wouldn't it be amazing to see a native bee hive in everyone's back yard? ...
