Last week for Women in Maritime day, Women's International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA) in conjunction with FPH hosted a day behind the scenes at Flinders Adelaide Container Terminal. The event included terminal tours, hands‑on experience in the crane simulator, and finished with great conversations over lunch.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us at WISTA to connect, learn and support women across the maritime and logistics industry, and to the Flinders Ports staff who shared their knowledge and helped make it a great event.

Earlier this month, our team spent the morning at the new Foodbank SA warehouse, helping pack food hampers for those in need.

Located in Pooraka, the impressive 13,733sqm facility will nearly double Foodbank’s capacity to support communities across SA and NT, a vital step in meeting growing demand.

After a meet & greet and tour of the site, our team got to work packing produce hampers for families doing it tough. With the expanded space, we’re excited to grow the number of team members involved in future volunteering initiatives through our ongoing sponsorship.

A rewarding morning for our team and a great opportunity to be part of something that makes a real difference.

That’s a wrap on the 25/26 cruise season!

Across Port Adelaide and Port Lincoln, we welcomed 31 cruise ships, including 8 exciting maiden calls.

Thank you to our team for all their hard work over the past few months. We’re already looking forward to doing it all again next season.

Today is International Day for Women in Maritime, a day that recognises and reflects on the contribution of women across our industry.

At FPH, we continue to make progress towards a more inclusive and equitable workplace. Women across our organisation are contributing at all levels, leading teams, influencing change, and supporting future pathways into the industry.

Over the past two years, we have focused on building strong foundations to support women entering, remaining, and progressing in maritime careers.

What is a swing basin?

A swing basin is a designated area of water wide enough for vessels to safely turn around. At Outer Harbor, the swing basin sits alongside Berths 6 and 7 at FACT. Spanning approximately 550 metres, it’s designed to accommodate large vessels, including Post Panamax container ships.

Swipe to see MSC Mediterranean Shipping Co Ajaccio completing a turn within the basin, assisted by two Svitzer Australia tugboats. Depending on the vessel’s capabilities, such as onboard thrusters, this manoeuvre can sometimes be carried out without tug assistance.

Last week CEO Stewart Lammin and GM FACT Trent Kolbig were pleased to host new Port Adelaide MP Cheyne Rich to Flinders Adelaide Container Terminal. They showcased the GatewaySA Program of Works totalling $300m. Also proudly discussing our role in the economic development of the state and the wellbeing of our port communities.
