New report into 'ride-sharing' finds "When compared to trips made in private vehicles, non-pooled ride-hailing trips on average produce almost 50% more emissions.'

With ride-hailing services now providing more trips than taxis, the growth of ride-hailing has directly contributed to increased local pollution and exacerbated traffic congestion in dense urban areas."

Kapuddle is authentic car-sharing. Not ride-sharing. Our goal is to reduce car emissions, by reducing the number of cars on the road. We are the the opposite of these taxis by another name.

A backwards step in ACT.

ACT Greens transport spokeswoman Caroline Le Couteur, said the move was "out-of-step" with the government's climate action commitments.

"This is the kind of disappointing decision you get when a government wants a cheap, short-term solution, and when they forget about the about the long-term sustainability of the city."

Sounds familiar. It's true in WA too.

Grr. State government could sort this now by converting bus lanes to transit lanes to prioritise high occupancy vehicles and banning commercial ride sharing from Uber, Ola and Didi. Ride sharing is crippling the environment, our health and our pockets.

$600bn of spending needed over next 15 years, Infrastructure Australia say.
Use roads cleverly, we say.
Turning bus lanes into Transit Lanes for carpoolers would reduce the number of cars on the roads, and is a lot lot cheaper than building more roads, or widening them. It much cheaper than silly electronic information signs and traffic lights on on ramps, which appears to be WA Labors answer. Real change, real solutions takes vision and courage.

Infrastructure Australia says services are coming under unprecedented pressure and the current boom in construction projects needs to become the new normal to keep pace with population growth and changing consumer demands.

Surely this is not sustainable. Ever increasing the tax burden on already stretched resources and stretched battlers requires much bigger ideas. Commuters need more reasons to leave their cars at home not more roads to fill with Ubers and Olas.
