At Key Source Rail, we recognize that our commercial success is deeply connected to our environmental and social responsibilities and although we arenโt legally required to meet Australiaโs new ESG Mandates, doing the right thing isnโt about checkboxes for us. It is about our values. We choose to measure our footprint, support our community, and operate transparently because sustainable business is simply better business. We are proud to play our part in building a cleaner, fairer future - by choice.
To ensure sustainable long-term value for our clients, partners, and communities, we align our operations with the robust Environmental, Social, and Governance Mandate framework.
This is how we minimize our footprint, empower our workforce, and maintain absolute corporate integrity. The following sections detail our strategic commitments, goals, and continuous progress across these three critical pillars
๐ Environmental: Sustainability in the rail sector isn't just about switching to lower-emission locomotives. To truly follow modern ESG mandates, we need to look at the circular economy of the infrastructure we leave in the ground. Every level crossing, pedestrian walkway, and track upgrade is an opportunity to build a greener footprint. Traditional concrete and asphalt road crossings take a heavy toll on the environment, require massive civil footprints to install, and crack under the pressure of heavy traffic.
Through our exclusive partnership with , we supply high-impact, modular rubber level crossings and drainage systems made entirely from 100% recycled rubber tyres. Not only do these systems divert thousands of tyres from landfill - they can also be installed in a fraction of the time compared to concrete. This minimises track closures and actively dampens noise in urban areas as Perth's suburbs expand.
We also offer Rosehill Railโs Rubber Anti-Trespass Panels, which are proven to reduce track trespassing by up to 78%. This innovative system directly supports the industry's strict public safety mandates. While the panels are built from 100% recycled rubber to ensure long-term durability, their modular design allows for rapid on-site screw-down installation over any existing surface. This significantly minimises track closure windows and maintenance downtime compared to pouring concrete alternatives.
Also, by supplying ultra-hard, tungsten carbide-protected tamping tines and wear plates, we dramatically extend the lifespan of maintenance tools. This limits frequent machinery deployments, lowering the operator's fuel consumption and Scope 1 emissions.
๐ Social: We base our social pillar of the ESG Mandate into our daily operations through our support of staff within the Fair Workplace framework, onsite team events (e.g. Harmony Day) and our social club outings. We also support community involvement and local charity events.
We feel our social obligations are an important part of our daily operations, and we are mindful to focus on how our actions impact our team, suppliers, local communities and supply chain.
Examples include:
๐นWorkplace Wellbeing: regular team get-togethers for community initiatives (e.g. RUOK Day), celebrating birthdays, special life events and offering morning teas or luncheons to foster an inclusive environment where everyone feels seen, heard and valued.
๐น Community Safety & Support: Partnering with community groups and charities to deliver mental health initiatives (such as Menโs Health Week) and donate to other charities we support (e.g. Canteen/Bandana Day).
๐น Supply Chain Ethics: Enforcing policies and establishing supplier codes of conduct to ensure fair labour practices throughout the supply cycle.
๐ Governance: We hold an ISO 9001:2015 certification, meaning our quality management systems seamlessly integrate into tier-1 procurement frameworks. This provides the verifiable component data required for audited sustainability reporting under Australiaโs AASB standards.
This is what the next track of rail looks like: tougher infrastructure, faster installations, and a massive win for corporate sustainability goals.
