The Best Time to Travel in Africa: Your Ultimate African Travel Calendar. When is the best time to visit Africa? With a continent this vast, the answer depends on where you want to go and what you want to see. The best destinations for every month, from safari favourites to lesser-known gems is vast. Get the timing right, and you can experience Africa at its very best.

Let's take a look at May 2027

The oldest and largest national park in Zimbabwe, Hwange National Park is best known for its elephants, with one of the largest herds on the continent roaming its vast woodland and grassland. But elephants are far from the only draw: Hwange is also home to endangered African wild dogs and more than 400 bird species, including migrants that arrive throughout the year.

May marks the beginning of the dry season, as the landscape starts to thin and wildlife becomes increasingly drawn to Hwange’s pumped waterholes. With fewer leaves obscuring the view and animals gathering around these reliable water sources, game viewing becomes easier as the season progresses.

Then we move into June and July 2027

This incredible wildlife sanctuary is regarded as one of the greatest in the world, and it’s easy to see why. This 9,050 km² national park is densely packed with wildlife. What it’s most commonly known for, however, is being the birthplace of the walking safari.

July sits firmly within South Luangwa's dry season, several months after the last of the rains. Watering holes left over from the wet season begin drawing wildlife in as the surrounding bush dries out, and by July, tracking on foot becomes more rewarding, with clearer sightlines and animals concentrated closer to the Luangwa River itself.Hailed as one of Africa’s finest wildlife sanctuaries, South Luangwa National Park packs a massive punch within its 9,050km² boundaries. Laying at the tail-end of the Great Rift and skirting along the Luangwa River, this park’s savannah grasslands are populated by 60 species of wildlife and over 400 species of birdlife – making it great for both game viewing and bird-watching. Plus: the park’s remote location and relatively low number of visitors mean you’ll be guaranteed an exclusive safari experience in an unspoilt environment.

A visit to Bruny Island is a must when visiting Tasmania.

Bruny Island day tours depart daily from Hobart and offer a mix of rugged wilderness, unique wildlife, and artisan food tasting. Most full-day excursions start around 7:45 AM from the Hobart CBD, drive south to Kettering, and cross via the SeaLink Bruny Island Ferry. You can find the best tour for your style based on these three main types of itineraries:

Bruny Island Traveller (Gourmet Tour): A highly-rated, multi-course tasting journey. The day includes exclusive cheese and beer pairings at Bruny Island Cheese & Beer Co., fresh oysters at Get Shucked, sweet treats from the Bruny Island Chocolate Company, and local honey. It also breaks up the eating with a beach stroll and a rainforest walk to spot rare white wallabies. Which is the one I did
Bruny Island Cruises (Pennicott Wilderness Journeys): This classic itinerary features a 3-hour yellow-boat eco-cruise. You will cruise alongside some of Australia's highest sea cliffs, enter deep sea caves, and spot fur seals, dolphins, and migrating whales. It includes round-trip transport from the Pennicott Wilderness Journeys Booking Centre, morning tea, and lunch.

Bruny Island SafarisThis option provides comprehensive land-based sightseeing across both North and South Bruny. Key highlights include a guided tour inside the historic Cape Bruny Lighthouse (the only southern lighthouse open to the public), panoramic photography at The Neck lookout, and exploring the beaches of Adventure Bay
