Interdisciplinary artists Mei Saraswati and Matt Aitken will facilitate sensory-guided Eco Ghost Tours of Lake Kingsford, with the assistance of a special guest each week who will speak on their own perspective of the wetlands, from Noongar to botanical and beyond. Tours will take place on Fri May 6th, Fri May 13th, Friday May 20th & Sat May 21st. Tours will begin with a free breakfast club at 7pm
in the Urban Orchard, inviting inner-city commuters to drop in and engage in conversation about the land on which they regularly walk, work and study. The immersive guided tour will then set off throughout the streets of Northbridge, stopping at various key sites for sensory exchanges. Drawing from the psycho-geography concept of the "derrive", guided drifting journeys through urban environments, pedestrians will be disrupted from predictable paths and jolted into a new awareness of the urban landscape. De-stigmatising local swamps and wetlands areas is an essential step towards people genuinely reconnecting with the rich land upon which Perth is built. Basing the tours around the former site of Lake Kingsford, a major food bowl and significant site for Noongar culture and cosmology, we aim to increase appreciation for the native ecology. This project was commissioned by the City of Perth for TRANSART: TRANSITION 2016
