LR4 to coolangatta will need a change of state government, ( and it seems we may have a change of federal as well) some kind of funding for $ billions 5-10 estimated for 13 klms (a billion is 1000 million for the lunatics that like paying 50c) complete an accurate business case showing cost \benifit and allow at least 10 years for completion, those saying I cant wait, you will just have to- 2040 at best.

If the tram was to go to Coolangatta, it would cross the highway twice, once at airport drive and again past the university to coolangatta, so with trams either direction, and tram prority at traffic lights, it would be stopping the highway traffic every couple of minutes, currently all dangerous goods vehicles travel past the airport, and when the tunnel gets closed for an accident or repairs, the whole of the M1 traffic uses the highway, chances of an accident would be considerable. This would not be solving traffic congestion, like they tell us.

Tram Gunzells are posting a lot,- a lot of rubbish, saying If LR goes to the airport they estimate there will be 20 million passengers per year use the tram, --- every $billion has a cost of $50 million per year just in interest, if stage 4 cost $10 billion, every passenger will cost tax payers $25 per trip just in interest, then add operational costs and repairs, without any payback of the total cost, the photo is his wet dream of future Palm Beach, the tram is now planned to harbourtown, that will take 5-6 years, then some east west connections to robina another few years, before coolangatta is even considered again. I would prefer Palm Beach did not end up like their dream, no parking, no bike lane, single lane traffic and not showing where stations will take another 10 metres, and I prefer the trip through bilinga as it is, with people able to travel to all the gold coast and not one tiny strip to Surfers.

apparently heavy rail funding to the airport has stalled, and it was going to cost less than light rail LR4, seems the previous government with their olympic bid has left no money

In September last year, Stage 4 of the light rail was scrapped. No final business case was ever done, I assume they couldnt juggle the cost to make it look viable. The previous government transport minister was not telling the whole story and refused to liase with residents.

Gold coast airport passenger numbers 6.5 million per anum, if 10% used the tram thats 650,000, is it worth spending $5-10 billion , many passengers could be local, and many would be going NSW. There has to be a cost/benifit, for ratepayers, and not just for the remaining businesses along the existing tracks.

surfers\ airport return. a bus every five minutes to travel 25 klms in an hour (tram speed) is 24 buses, $24 million vs $ ten thousand million for a tram to do the same,

Stage three must has eliminated traffic congestion between Broadbeach and Burleigh. ( thats a joke for the gullible) Really when the train spotting Gunzells shake their heads they hear rocks. Every $billion at 5% interest is $500 million per year, how many gunzels will it take to cover the interest, tourism is about 5% of the gold coast economy, and not every tram passenger is getting off at the airport. it needs to have branch links to heavy rail, which needs to go to the airport as planned 50 years ago
