Oberon Tarana Heritage Railway Inc

Oberon Tarana Heritage Railway Inc OTHR - bringing your rail heritage back to life. The 24.3 km Oberon to Tarana railway line which was opened in 1923 and last operated in 1979, is a unique line.

It has one of the steepest gradients of any track in New South Wales and is a very scenic railway as it descends from the Oberon Plateau through wooded hills and farming country to the beautiful Tarana Valley, crossing two creeks and the Fish River. OTHR plans to establish a business which will be a tourist railway on the disused Oberon to Tarana railway line. Stage One of the project will be to r

estore the track from Oberon Railway Station to Hazelgrove Siding. Stage Two of the project will be to restore the line from Hazelgrove to Carlwood Siding and the final Third Stage will be the restoration of the line from Carlwood Siding to Tarana Railway Station.

Hazelgrove Station Precinct
Many of you would be aware that we have a NSW State Grant to put in place a turnaround loop, station platform and picnic area at Hazelgrove. The last few months have been very busy in this regard with a lot achieved.
Many sleepers have been replaced with the help of our new members Sam and Logan. Only a few more need replacing.
Tim Barnes has been busy with his excavator and made a lot of progress shaping and compacting the mounds of dirt for the platform and cutting in the edges to enable marking out and drilling of the required retaining wall columns.

All of the required concrete posts for the station have been manufactured and will be ready for instalation shortly. Tim and Michael have prepared the pad for the picnic shelter ready for the concrete pour. The four steel posts for the shelter structure have been concreted in place while Mark Langdon assisted with
cutting and welding closed the ends of our main shelter rafters. Jessie also assisted with hand weeding the track of woody weeds as well as general labouring.
