Today marked a significant advocacy win for the Community Transport and Aged Care sectors as the Federal Government announced that Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) would remain as a standalone program, separate from Support at Home (SaH), with funding extended until 30 June 2029.

The announcement comes after significant advocacy from the entire aged care sector via submissions to the Senate Inquiry into the proposed transition of CHSP into SaH earlier this year.

Key points:

❇️ CHSP will not be merged into Support at Home.

❇️ Existing funding arrangements and provider contracts will continue until June 2029.

❇️ The Government will use this time to strengthen the program and consult on its long-term future.

This is a welcome outcome that provides a level of certainty for providers and the approximately 830,000 older Australians who rely on CHSP services.

The CTO will continue to advocate strongly for our members and work alongside the CHSP Alliance to ensure the sector has a seat at the table and a meaningful voice in all future consultation and decision-making regarding the future of CHSP.

We will also continue the conversation at our EVOLVE '26 Conference to be held in Sydney from 22-23 September where we'll hear from the Federal Government and CHSP Alliance founders Paul Sadler, Professor Kathy Eagar AM and Professor Michael Fine.

We're excited to announce that our judges for this year's Community Transport Awards for Excellence are Aged Care Consultant Paul Sadler and COTA NSW CEO Gohar Yazdabadi.

Paul brings four decades in the aged care sector as a national and state CEO of aged care industry associations, CEO of a major aged care provider, and influencer of ageing policy, disability and community care programs. He is currently a Co-Convenor for the CHSP Alliance which continues to champion the cause for a sustainable CHSP future.

Gohar is an experienced policy, research and advocacy leader with over 15 years’ experience across Federal and State government, corporate, and not-for-profit sectors. She has extensive experience in developing evidence-based policy and successfully advocating for systematic policy changes.

We are grateful to both our judges for donating their time to helping us recognise and celebrate the people and organisations delivering impact, innovation, commitment, and excellence to our industry and the communities we service.
