DID YOU KNOW? Today marks 65 years since Maroochy Airport officially opened its doors to the Sunshine Coast.

On 12 August 1961, Senator Shane Paltridge, Federal Minister for Civil Aviation, officially opened Maroochy Airport, ushering in a new era of aviation for the region.

At the time, the airport was a modest facility with just a single hangar. But it wasn't long before it became home to the Sunshine Coast's growing aviation community (and later, home to Flight Options HQ!).

In 1965, the airport welcomed its first flying school, helping launch the careers of countless pilots and cementing the airport's place as a hub for aviation training.

Today, more than six decades later, Sunshine Coast Airport is home to a thriving aviation industry, connecting the region with Australia and beyond while supporting pilot training, charter operations, aeromedical services and aircraft maintenance.

Flight Options was established in 2007 at Sunshine Coast Airport by Steve Padgett OAM, who relocated his aviation business from Sydney and joined the Sunshine Coast aviation community in 1995.

Since then, Flight Options has proudly supported the local community and played an important role in shaping the future of aviation on the Sunshine Coast by training the next generation of pilots and providing private charter services.

Alongside Flight Options' pilot training and charter operations, Sunshine Coast Jet Centre has become an integral part of the airport's aviation community, providing FBO services to support the region's growing demand for business and leisure aviation.

From one hangar in 1961 to one of Australia's fastest-growing regional airports today, it's amazing to see how far Sunshine Coast aviation has come.

Here's to the next chapter. Happy 65th anniversary, Sunshine Coast Airport! ✈️

Noosa Concours 2026 — what a day!

The teams at Flight Options and Sunshine Coast Jet Centre had a fabulous (and busy) day at this year’s Noosa Concours d’Elegance, celebrating the very best in prestigious motoring and community spirit.

As an Event Partner of Noosa Concours, Sunshine Coast Jet Centre was proud to support this spectacular event, while Flight Options was honoured to serve as a Gold Sponsor of the Travis Schultz & Partners Noosa Winemakers Lunch, which raised an incredible $210,100 for SunnyKids and the vital work they do to support vulnerable children and families across our region.

Adding to the occasion, Flight Options and Sunshine Coast Jet Centre Founder and CEO Steve Padgett OAM showcased four remarkable vehicles at this year’s event: the 1965 Brabham BT16, the 1967 Repco Brabham BT23, a 1967 Triumph TR5 and a 1955 Ford Thunderbird Convertible.

From witnessing Sam Brabham drive the BT23 down Hastings Street to seeing thousands of enthusiasts gather to admire some of the world’s finest automobiles, Noosa Concours once again delivered an unforgettable celebration of craftsmanship, engineering and heritage.

Take a look through some of the team’s highlights from the day, which capture the people, cars and moments that made Noosa Concours 2026 so special.

Congratulations to the organisers, volunteers, sponsors and supporters who made Noosa Concours 2026 such a success. We are already looking forward to next year.

$210,100 raised for Sunny Kids!

That was the outstanding result of Saturday’s Travis Schultz Noosa Winemakers Lunch, held as part of Noosa Concours, with the Sunshine Coast community once again coming together to support vulnerable children and families across our region.

Flight Options is proud to support this important fundraiser as a Gold Sponsor and to contribute one of the day’s major auction prizes: a business jet experience for four to the award-winning Bonville Golf Resort, valued at $16,500.

The successful bidder will enjoy a seamless flight from Sunshine Coast Jet Centre to Coffs Harbour, complete with private ground transfers to Bonville Golf Resort. The experience includes 18 holes at one of Australia’s most celebrated golf courses, lunch overlooking the fairways at the Bonville Brasserie, and same-day return travel.

Congratulations to SunnyKids, &Partners and everyone who helped make this remarkable fundraising effort possible. We are honoured to have played a significant part in an event that will make such a meaningful difference to local children and families.

For Sam Brabham, driving the 1967 Repco Brabham BT23 down Hastings Street at Noosa Concours was about far more than getting behind the wheel of a remarkable racing car.

As the grandson of Sir Jack Brabham, Sam reflected on the enduring friendship between his grandfather and Sunshine Coast Jet Centre Founder and CEO Steve Padgett OAM—forged decades ago through a shared passion for aviation and motorsport.

The BT23 formed part of the Brabham Anniversary Collection at this year’s Noosa Concours, which brought together seven historic Brabham racing cars. Steve owns two of the vehicles on display—the 1965 Brabham BT16 and the 1967 Repco Brabham BT23—yet considers himself the custodian of these iconic vehicles, preserving an important piece of Australian motorsport history for future generations.

We were thrilled to witness Sam take to the streets of Noosa in the BT23 and to hear the stories that continue to connect the Brabham legacy with the Sunshine Coast community.

Watch Sam’s reflections on the significance of these historic racing cars, his family’s connection to Steve, and what it meant to drive the BT23 at this year’s Noosa Concours.

Just as pilots carry out their final checks before take-off, an extraordinary amount of preparation takes place behind the scenes before the cars of Noosa Concours take centre stage.

From final polishes and last-minute detailing to owners carefully inspecting every finish, the Noosa Concours muster point is where passion, precision and craftsmanship come together before the main event.

As an Event Partner of Noosa Concours, Sunshine Coast Jet Centre was proud to be part of another spectacular weekend celebrating some of the world’s finest automobiles. With Sunshine Coast Jet Centre Founder and CEO Steve Padgett OAM also showcasing vehicles at this year’s event, the occasion held special significance for our team.

While aviation and motoring may seem worlds apart, both share a commitment to excellence. Whether preparing an aircraft for departure or presenting a prized vehicle on Hastings Street, success lies in the details.

Take a look behind the scenes at the dedication and preparation that help bring Noosa Concours to life.

Sunshine Coast Jet Centre founder and principal Steve Padgett OAM and Sir Jack shared a passion for aviation and motorsport, and after meeting at Bankstown Airport in the 1970s, forged a lifelong friendship. Continuing that connection, Steve is delighted that Sir Jack's grandson, Sam Brabham, has been invited by Noosa Concours to participate in this year's event.
