A huge thank-you to North-Marine and the incredibly warm and supportive Kurrimine community. You’ve all been fantastic through what’s been a challenging ordeal. On the positives, we have many new friends as well as our existing awesome Mission Beach and further abroad supporters.

We’re very relieved to say QuickCoast is now safe and heading into repairs, getting ready to return to doing what she does best—serving tourism in our region. 🌊

Our launch date remains 02 April 2026 for our reef and island tours. Whilst Cairns would have been the easier option for us to manage repairs, we made a conscious decision to support Cardwell and other Cassowary Coast businesses by towing QuickCoast to Hinchinbrook Port of Call.

Thank you all for the kind positive messages and ongoing support. It truly means a lot. 💙

It is with a heavy heart that we share QuickCoast’s vessel has and has grounded on Kurrimine Beach.

Early local communications suggest the vessel appears to have sustained minimal damage, although a full assessment will be carried out as soon as possible. The mooring itself is engineered and rated for a vessel significantly larger than ours, so at this stage we do not yet understand how this has occurred.

Watching this unfold from afar has been incredibly difficult — it truly feels like my baby floating at sea without me onboard to help. I’m relieved the immediate situation appears stable.

More than anything, we want to sincerely thank the local community and individuals who have reached out, checked in, and offered help. Your support means more than you know.

Bry is currently working to arrange flights and return to Mission Beach and FNQ as soon as financially possible. We will provide further updates once more information is available.

Thank you for your patience and support.

Temporary Suspension of Operations

We wish to advise that our reef cruises to Dunk Island and the Outer Great Barrier Reef are temporarily suspended. This pause is due to berthing challenges related to updated health and safety requirements at our existing berthing facility.

The safety of our guests, crew, and vessels remains our highest priority. We are actively working with the relevant authorities and partners to implement a compliant and sustainable long-term solution.

We expect to provide further updates as progress is made and sincerely appreciate your understanding and patience during this time.

We aim to resume our much-loved small-group, Outer Great Barrier Reef and Dunk Island tours from Thursday, 2 April 2026.

UPDATE: 10 November 2025

QuickCoast is currently in consultation with the Council regarding a revised approach to addressing Work Health and Safety concerns through the daily use of Pen Berths. We trust that the Council’s management will recognise the tireless efforts and significant investment made by QuickCoast in promoting the Cassowary Coast, and in showcasing the region’s unique reef and island experiences both domestically and internationally.

Over the past three years, QuickCoast has carried the highest number of passengers and operated at more than twice the frequency of any other operator. We have respectfully requested priority access to the northern pontoon for overnight berthing in the short to medium term.

As a long-term solution, we propose to install a private mooring or modify an existing one to ensure it meets the safety and operational needs of QuickCoast’s daily vessel and crew activities.

We remain hopeful for a fair and cooperative approach from the Council in managing the Clump Point Marine Facility.

We aim to resume our much-loved and highly successful small-group reef and island tours by Thursday, 2 April 2026. We remain optimistic that the matter will be resolved promptly and that operations may recommence even sooner.

QuickCoast Suspends Mission Beach and Cairns Services Following Ongoing Council Interference

Myroo Group calls for fair and workable framework from Council.

QuickCoast and Dunk Island Reef Adventures have today announced the immediate suspension of all marine transport and tourism operations between Mission Beach, Cairns, Dunk Island and the reef, citing ongoing interference from the Cassowary Coast Regional Council in relation to the management of Clump Point.

Council have decided they revoking a clause in QuickCoast's previous agreement where it was agreed due to QuickCoast's size it could dock overnight on the northern side of the southern pontoon. A new unreasonable demand by council in the new agreement that QuickCoast starts to use a pen berth not suitable for day to day use, in addition especially QuickCoast's size. Pen berths are designed for typically fishing boats that tie up for weeks at a time - absolutely not day to day use and not safe for crew or large vessels with no piles between vessels.

Let the council be real and responsible about the work health and safety nightmare of potential risk to crew and vessel.

Director Bry Penfold said the decision to suspend operations was made with great reluctance after more than three years of successful operation and ongoing efforts to cooperate with Council officers in good faith.

“We are incredibly disappointed to reach this point after years of working so hard for local tourism however not the first time council hinders our company's existence"

Bry has had to take immediate sick leave due to the stress of the unreasonable demands by council which are not workable as previously agreed by the previous asset manager.
