The recently opened Metro Tunnel is the largest public transport infrastructure project in Victoria's history. The five metro stations have become new landmarks and meeting places, each designed to reflect its location by drawing on its history and character.
The Melbourne Town Hall station harmonises with both its heritage neighbours and the surrounding contemporary architecture. Buckford Illumination Group is proud to have supplied WE-EF LIGHTING and Xero Linear Lighting across this new Melbourne icon.
The concourse features WE-EF projectors that accentuate the tree-like structures, while surface-mounted downlights provide wallwashing and general illumination, contributing to a safe and welcoming environment. This approach continues through the pedestrian underpass, where glare-free WE-EF downlights deliver visual comfort while Xero Linear Lighting softly washes the tiled walls with light.
As passengers descend to the platform, projectors illuminate the continuous orange canopy, enhancing its structure and emphasising the scale of the space. WE-EF luminaires integrated within the chandelier structures combine functional illumination with uplighting to further highlight the ceiling above.
Overall, the lighting scheme supports the stationโs function as both a major transport hub and a significant civic space within Melbourneโs CBD.
