Puffing Billy Railway Puffing Billy is Australia's premier preserved steam railway and operates every day (except Christmas Day). Puffing Billy runs daily except Christmas Day.

The journey aboard Puffing Billy takes you through the magnificent Dandenong Ranges, located only one hour east of Melbourne. Travel on this century-old steam train through the forests and fern gullies of the Dandenong Ranges, only one hour east of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia!

The 2026 Train of Lights is now sold out! We know many of you were eagerly anticipating securing tickets for this much-loved winter experience, and while we understand there may be a few disappointed faces, we hope you'll join us in 2027! Thank you for your incredible support, and to the lucky ones who secured a ticket, we will see you in June!

Get ready for a magical experience! ✨ Train of Lights tickets will GO ON SALE AT 10 AM ON THURSDAY 28 MAY!

Join us for an enchanting journey through the picturesque Dandenong Ranges, as our historic train twinkles and shines with thousands of lights. This event will run every night between June 26th - July 19th


To ensure the fairest possible purchase experience for all customers, you will be placed in a virtual queue. To access the virtual queue, visit the link below.


PLEASE NOTE

•If you access the link before 10 am on Thursday 28 May, you will be placed in a pre-queue in anticipation of the ticket sales going live.

• All people that are in the pre-queue at 10 am on Thursday 28 May are randomly placed into the live virtual queue, with no special advantage.

• Everyone, including accessibility bookings, will need to purchase tickets through the online queue system. No bookings will be accepted via email or phone

Happy Birthday 7A! 🚂🎂

Built in 1905 and issued for the Wangaratta to Whitfield line, it saw service on all four lines until 1958 when it was withdrawn from service.

Coming back to work in 1962 with the reopening of the Belgrave line, it has been working ever since! 121 years old and still puffing along!

An organisation we hold dear to our hearts, is the Good Friday Appeal 💜

This year, Puffing Billy Railway is donating 50% of the purchased tickets from two of the Belgrave to Lakeside services on the day to the Good Friday Appeal. Donations can help kids like Ollie who are seen and treated by the incredible teams at The Royal Children's Hospital 💜

We had the pleasure of hosting Ollie and his family and what a magical day it was ✨

Meeting our train crew and station master, getting to sit on the sills for the very first time and a close up look of our loco! An experience like no other with memories to last a life time!

From fern gullies to towering Mountain Ash trees, our railway winds through the heart of the Dandenong Ranges. Home to native wildlife, these forests aren’t just the backdrop to our railway, they’re part of the Railway’s story.

That’s why we’re committed to protecting and restoring the landscape we call home, with ongoing revegetation and habitat projects along the line. Through partnerships with volunteers and environmental organisations, Puffing Billy Railway is restoring native species, improving the habitat along the Railway corridor and waterways!

This International Day of Forests, we’re celebrating the temperate rainforests that surround us — and the work being done to ensure they continue to thrive for generations to come.
