Food and Drink
The Japanese Menu (Washoku) was a delight. Starting off with the Kaiseki, a mixture of small intricate dishes followed up with an onion dashi broth & caviar and the main course of grilled lobster, a very enjoyable meal. Beyond the main meal service, there was also an extensive alacarte menu to indulge in throughout the flight which included Wagyu beef sushi and the JAL Special Ramen. The wine list, a standout in all regards. 2013 Salon (retailing over $1000 a bottle) and 2015 Bollinger La Grande were the champagne selections. My favourite being the Zaku sake Dr Loosen Riesling. The whisky list was equally impressive, featuring the 100th Anniversary Hibiki and an exclusive JAL. Ichiro's Malt.
Value
Booked two weeks prior to the flight, it was 149,800 Qantas Points + โฌ331 (equivalent to $590 AUD) for a seat, equivalent to 10.2 cents per point. Incredibly value after considering the likes of Emirates ($1500) and the initial Air France business class seat I had originally booked ($1100).
Final thoughts
In my experience, this is simply the best airline seat in the skies. I could've spent a full 24 hours on board! The combination of privacy, space, and outstanding food and drinks truly sets it apart.
