Melbourne on Transit - blog Advocating improvements to public transport services in Melbourne, Australia.

A promise from Labor to widen Taylors Rd. However the main public transport along it is the 418 bus between St Albans and Caroline Springs. However, like most bus routes in Melbourne's west, it's only every 40 min off-peak with a 9pm finish. 418 is a main road route that justifies better service than currently runs.

[Blog] Melbourne's grandest PT plan was probably the Fouvy scheme devised in 2004 for completion in 2025. Vastly bigger than the Suburban Rail Loop, it proposed a rapid transit rail grid to halve travel times for many trips, including across suburbs. Learn about it here (link below).

Coalition promising 25 bi-modal trains for Wyndham Vale and Melton. These would have more room for standees and enter either the City Loop or Metro Tunnel. They also want an independent PTV Board.

A Liberal and Nationals Government will deliver more trains, more seats and greater capacity for Melbourne’s west.

We’ll invest $1.7 billion to deliver 25 new hybrid electric trains for the Melton and Wyndham Vale lines, finally delivering suburban rail services for these communities and more than doubling passenger capacity.

Labor promised to electrify these lines in 2018 and 2022. Eight years later, Melton and Wyndham Vale are still reliant on V/Line diesel trains.

Our plan will deliver metro-quality train services to Melbourne’s west sooner.

Whether or not SRL proceeds or is paused, it's important that the rest of the public transport network gets more upgrades to make it fast, frequent and reliable. We've outlined initiatives for buses, trams, Metro and V/Line that our politicians should be prioritising. https://ptua.org.au/posts/2026/priorities-for-2026-election/

Some Saturday morning crayoning. Not of networks but of PT projects. More specifically their user catchment versus their frequency of use. This has implications for how one might raise funding for them, including the controversial but now scrapped SRL levy.

Not highly publicised but the Sandringham line going to every 10 min creates a new cross platform interchange opportunity at South Yarra with constant 3 min connection times interpeak.
