How’s the view from up there? 👓

Inspecting a historic rail bridge, such as this one in Eltham, calls for a creative approach. To get a close look at the bridge components, the team suited up in harnesses and took their inspection to new heights.

Did you know the Eltham Timber Trestle bridge is the only wooden rail bridge still in use on the Metro Trains network? Built in 1902, this piece of history celebrates its 124th birthday this year!

🥤 Finished your drink? Don’t bin that 10-cent container.

New collection baskets attached to bins are being trialled at six stations, giving eligible drink containers a separate place to go and making them easier to collect. ♻️

Collecting containers for refunds? The baskets are there for everyone to use, so you can take eligible containers and cash them in for 10 cents each.

Keep an eye out for them at Mernda, South Morang, Epping, Pakenham, Narre Warren and Hallam.

Warm meals are now available at Flinders Street Station seven nights a week. 💙

Vinnies Victoria’ Inner City Soup Van is now extending its service to Sunday nights, giving people experiencing homelessness or hardship in Melbourne’s C*D access to a hot meal, drinks, snacks and a friendly chat every night of the week.

Metro’s partnership with Vinnies’ means the Soup Van will continue to stop outside Flinders Street Station, connecting people in the heart of the city with food and support when they need it most.

Our team loved hosting Victoria Police and other emergency services friends at Kananook Train Maintenance Facility to get hands-on with the new XT2 trains.

🚆 What happens when emergency services need to respond to an incident on a train?

Our Transit members recently joined other emergency services at Kananook Train Depot for a familiarisation session on the new X'Trapolis 2.0, or XT2 for all you train nerds 🤓

The session gave members the opportunity to get hands-on with the new trains and better understand how to access and respond during an emergency.

And there's some pretty clever tech on board 👀

From enhanced safety features to live onboard cameras that can also capture audio, members got an insight into how the XT2 could support emergency responses when it begins rolling out across the network. Because when an emergency happens, knowing the train can make all the difference.

🐝We recently had some unexpected guests buzz into BEEntleigh Station. 🐝

Station Staff were bee-wildered to find the black and yellow visitors yesterday morning, and quickly began plans to help get our guests home.

However, the bees decided they preferred hive-speed rail and left the station overnight - making a bee-line for some beautiful flowers nearby. A short stay, but they certainly created a buzz!

Rain, mud and a little bit of history. 🌧️

Today, the Blackburn Federation Time Capsule was reburied after spending six months above ground following its unearthing in March.

Originally buried in 2001 to celebrate the Centenary of Federation, the capsule has now been topped up with a few 2026 keepsakes, including a Victorian rail network map, before returning underground for another 25 years.

Metro was proud to work with the local community and Whitehorse Historical Society to help preserve this special piece of Blackburn's story.

See you again in 2051! 👋🕰️
