Last week we were out in Beaufort with the team at Wazza and Co, supporting their V/Line Track Vehicle Operator recertifications.

A family-run business with over 30 years of experience across rail, construction, maintenance and vegetation works, we have been working with since 2022. Each year, it is a pleasure to spend time with Warren and the team and to hear more about the work they are delivering across the industry.

If you are travelling along the Portland line, you may spot the team completing vegetation works, be sure to give them a wave. πŸ‘‹

TAA can support infrastructure training either on site or at our offices across Australia.

Seymour Railway Heritage in Victoria held working bees over the Christmas break, completing a range of track upgrades, including the installation of their first dual gauge turnout in the yard.

What stood out most was the level of industry support. Alongside the dedicated volunteers, there were contributions from across the Victorian rail sector, with infrastructure donations and local companies providing support such as DSL Welding and Tenex contributing both people and equipment. Some of the TAA team also had the opportunity to support.

Seeing this level of enthusiasm, generosity, and shared commitment to maintaining our rail heritage is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when industry works together. A great way to start the year and a credit to everyone involved.

Seymour Heritage have various services including:
- Tours and charters running throughout 2026
- Provided maintenance support of locomotives and rolling stock on both standard and broad gauge
- Leasing opportunities: They have a fleet of heritage locomotives that are available for short or long term lease to both commercial and heritage operators

πŸ“’ South Australia RIW Job Role and Matrix Update

The SA Rail Commissioner has confirmed the new Safeworking job roles matrix will go live in the RIW system on 5 January 2026.
β€’ For AMPRN Train roles, existing competencies will automatically transition to the updated SA Rail Commissioner roles, with no change to competency requirements, only updated role names.
β€’ For AMPRN Tram roles, several requirements have been simplified and a new Person Responsible for Electrical Safety role has been introduced.
β€’ Rail safety workers should ensure they hold the correct role for the network they are entering and check with their employer during the transition period.
β€’ All relevant roles must be correctly assigned in RIW by 2 February 2026

As we step into 2026, we would like to pause and acknowledge our frontline workers.

While many of us slow down over Christmas and the holiday season, thousands of workers across the transport industry and essential services continue working. They work nights, early mornings and public holidays to keep people moving, freight flowing and communities connected.

At Training Ahead, we see the impact of that commitment every day. It shows up in safer worksites, stronger teams and a workforce that takes pride in their work.

The year ahead will bring growth, opportunity and new challenges across our industries. None of this is possible without strong collaboration between industry and the people whose work keeps everything moving, day in and day out.

To everyone who worked through the holiday season, thank you. Your effort matters, and it does not go unnoticed.

Here’s to 2026, continuing to support our industry and to the people who keep Australia moving.

Where city meets country!

We have been enjoying supporting our MTM Caulfield colleagues in upskilling on the V/Line network. The integration of practical, real-world outcomes on the track reflects the strength of collaboration across organisations and networks.

A great example is working with Andy Landsell, who brings over 43 years of experience in the rail industry. Andy continues to lean in to new challenges and learning opportunities. He is currently completing the remaining units for his Certificate III in Rail Infrastructure, as well as undertaking in-field currency for V/Line Track Certifier.

Andy also welcomes you to his home town!
