Wheel build Wednesday!

Before, during and after. Wheel building is a process that we love. Transforming a hub, rim and pile of spokes into a wheel. Without them a bike is not a bike. When built correctly, it’s amazing how these individual parts can come together to create such a strong and crucial piece of the puzzle.

From choosing the right parts, spoke calculations, parts prep , lacing, dishing, to the final true and tension. We ensure that every wheel that leaves or workshop is built to withstand whatever you throw at it.
If you have a custom build in mind, drop in and see us to have a chat. Alternatively you can pick from our range of DT Swiss wheels, built in house at ATC.

A sunrise like this makes the early wake up call to join the 6am Mansfield bunch road ride worthwhile!

The ride, Tim’s Coffee Club, has become an institution in town. Meeting at the main roundabout in town at 6am on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, each day has a different route. But all rides finish with a coffee before we all head off to work.
Winter can get a bit chilly around here and numbers fall to only 4 or 5; numbers increase in summer to 12 or more.
If you’re in town, come along for a ride!

Workshop Wednesdays! ⚒️

Suspension servicing is the flavour of the month. Winter is a great time to perform those routine maintenance procedures that keep your bike running smoothly and prevent premature wear of expensive parts like suspension. Did you know that your suspension should be serviced every 50hrs of use? This also includes dropper seat posts. For most people this interval is generally between 6 and 12 months of use. Regular servicing of these parts ensures that they continue to function as they should, prevents premature wear and allows in-depth inspection of internal parts.

Picture 1: Routine 50hr servicing for this Fox Factory rear shock to keep it functioning like new.

Picture 2: It was a little too late for this Fox rear shock, showing clear signs of irreversible internal wear(this shock was 3 years old and has never been serviced...).

Picture 3: Dropper posts are a complex moving part that require servicing just like your suspension. This post had been far too long between services. A good clean, some new seals and it was good to go again.

Picture 4: Some very dirty grease inside a Fox fork air spring. This fork felt very harsh and lacked that nice supple feeling.

Picture 5: All cleaned up, new seals and lubrication. Your hands and wrists can thank us later.

Workshop Wednesdays!

‘Out of sight, out of mind’. That is often the case for suspension pivot bearings. We are sure that someone has already told you to get your suspension serviced at regular intervals. But have you ever considered what helps your rear suspension system run smoothly?

Modern dual suspension mountain bikes utilise complex linkage systems to transfer force from the rear wheel to your rear shock absorber. At the heart of these systems are generally multiple sets of sealed bearings. Like any moving part, these bearings wear over time. Worn pivot bearings will reduce the performance of your suspension and if ignored for too long will cause damage to your rear shock and frame.

This Trek Fuel ex had seen a few too many dusty summers and muddy winters. Luckily we caught this one just in time before any major damage could be inflicted to frame or shock.

Old, rusty bearings removed ✅
New bearings pressed ✅
All hardware cleaned ✅
Grease applied to all the right places ✅
Reassembled and all bolts torqued to spec ✅
New bike feel ✅

Happy Wednesday!
