There will be changed traffic conditions in place on the Warrego Highway, Karalee, between River Road and Mt Crosby Road to support the ongoing Bremer River westbound bridge rehabilitation.

These changes are expected to be in play from mid-May through to September 2026.

Good news. The Minister advises-

“The preferred solution consists of a range of rehabilitation works and additional steel girders that will extend the service life of the bridge and enable removal of the current speed restrictions. This will be achieved with significantly reduced traffic impacts compared to other options.

After completion, some larger oversize over-mass vehicles will still be required to use the eastbound bridge for westbound travel, as was the case prior to the bridge defects being identified in 2023.”

The Bremer River Bridge project includes critical rehabilitation and strengthening repair works, including bridge re-decking, to extend the life of the existing westbound bridge structure.

It looks like the Department of Transport & Main Roads are starting to prepare an area for contractors under the West Bound Bremer River Bridge on the west bank.

They have mowed the area, undertaken some earth works and brought in construction fencing.

I wish the Department of Transport & Main Roads would keep the community better informed as to what is happening with these works.

TENDER FOR VARIABLE SPEED LIMIT SIGN ON THE WARREGO HIGHWAY BREMER BRIDGE THAT CLOSED ON 26/11/25

The tender documents do not indicate if the variable speed sign is on the west bound or east bound Bremer River Bridge.

“The Department of Transport and Main Roads is seeking a contractor to carry out Variable Speed Limit Sign (VSLS) installation works on the Warrego Highway at the Bremer River Bridge. This tender (Reference VP485426) requires contractors prequalified to Road R3, Financial F10 and Asphalt A1 (Minor), and mandates Australian Government Building and Construction WHS Accreditation with the Queensland Code applying to the project; only prequalified contractors will be granted access to the tender documents.”

The silence from the State Government regarding repairs to the west bound Bremer River bridge on the Warrego Highway is deafening.

In April 2024 the State Government committed $42.5 million towards critical rehabilitation and strengthening works for the westbound Bremer River bridge and in May 2024 the Federal government committed funding for the project on a 50:50 basis. Funding is not the problem.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads says it is continuing to carry out maintenance works on the 67 year old Bremer River bridge on the Warrego Highway, but has stopped short of committing to a timeline on rehabilitation and strengthening works.

In November 2025, TMR Minister Brent Mickleberg promised to deliver 'real results'.
“We’re investing $85 million to strengthen the bridge’s steel girders without closing it - avoiding traffic chaos," Mr Mickleberg said.
