⚠️ DAINTREE FERRY – LOW TIDE ADVISORY ⚠️

Please be advised that low tide conditions are expected over the next two days, with low tide on Wednesday occurring at approximately 3:10pm.

During the period around low tide, the Daintree Ferry may need to operate more slowly and/or with reduced vehicle capacity to ensure the safe operation of the service.

We expect these conditions to be most relevant for approximately 1–1.5 hours either side of low tide.

🚛 Trucks and large buses: If possible, we recommend planning your journey to avoid travelling during this period, as you may experience delays or reduced loading capacity.

🚗 For cars and other smaller vehicles, the ferry will continue to operate, but some delays are possible.

These conditions are temporary and dependent on the tide and operating conditions on the day.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding while our operators manage the ferry safely during the low-tide period.

Please allow additional travel time and follow the directions of ferry staff.

PATIENCE AND RESPECT FOR EACH OTHER

Road works are currently being undertaken adjacent to the Daintree Ferry and tollbooths as part of important infrastructure upgrades to the site.

We understand these works can be frustrating and may result in delays. However, please note that Daintree Ferry staff have no control over the roadworks, traffic management arrangements, or decisions regarding the opening and closing of the priority lane.

In recent weeks the Daintree Ferry staff have been the recipients of unacceptable behaviours. We respectfully ask all road users to show patience, understanding and courtesy towards our team, traffic controllers, and fellow travelers.

We greatly appreciate the support and understanding shown by the majority of our customers and local community. Your kindness and patience make a genuine difference to our staff, and we thank you for your continued co-operation.

Together, we can help keep the Daintree a welcoming and enjoyable destination for both locals and visitors.

COUNCIL UPDATE: DAINTREE FERRY LANDSIDE INFRASTRUCTURE PROGRESS

Works continue to progress well, with significant progress being made across both the southern and northern sides of the ferry precinct.

This week crews have:
• Continued installation of the culverts.
• Completed concrete pours for sections of the new footpath and continued construction of the pedestrian shelters and ticket booth areas.
• Continued road foundation works and rock placement on the southern approach.
• Continued underground electrical works to support the upgraded ferry infrastructure.
• Completed clearing of vegetation.

Motorists should continue to expect minor delays while travelling through the work area and follow the directions of traffic controllers.

COUNCIL UPDATE: LANDSIDE INFRASTRUCTURE PROGRESS & PRIORITY LANE

Construction continues to progress on the southern side of the ferry precinct.

This week crews will be:
• Continuing to install new culverts while maintaining traffic flow through the work site.
• Preparing and pouring concrete for new footpaths, both north and south.
• Continuing road foundation and earthworks on the southern approach.
• Undertaking underground electrical works to support the new ticket booth location and future ferry infrastructure.

The priority lane is now closed while construction resumes. Motorists should continue to expect minor delays while traffic moves through the work area. Thank you for your patience as these important upgrades continue.

COUNCIL UPDATE: LOCAL'S PRIORITY LANE - TEMPORARY OPENING OVER THE LONG WEEKEND

To support expected traffic over the upcoming long weekend, the priority lane on the southern side of the Daintree Ferry will be open for four days only between
Friday 17 July 2026 to Monday 20 July 2026 (inclusive).

The temporary reopening is possible because the contractor is on its scheduled break, allowing the work area to be made safe for the priority lane to operate during this period.

From Tuesday 21 July 2026, the priority lane will close again so construction of the Daintree Ferry Landside Infrastructure Project can continue.

COUNCIL UPDATE: DAINTREE FERRY INFRASTRUCTURE WORKS

Work is continuing on the Daintree Ferry Landside Infrastructure Project, with activity taking place on both sides of the river.

Here's what's happening this week.

Footpath works – Preparation is underway for new footpaths between the boaties' car park and the ferry landing on the southern side.

• Earthworks – Rock fill continues to be placed on the southern approach following excavation works. This will continue to impact traffic lanes approaching the ticket booth while construction is underway.
• Roadworks – Road base is being placed on completed sections of the new road formation on the southern side.
• Electrical works – Underground electrical and communications works continue on the southern side, including:
o relocating power and communications to the future ticket booth location;
o installing fibre optic cabling conduits between the ferry house and the new ticket booth;
o providing power to the southern ferry landing for new floodlighting, boom gates and associated infrastructure.

Every effort is being made to minimise disruptions while these important upgrades are completed. Council appreciates your patience as work continues to improve the safety, efficiency and resilience of the Daintree Ferry precinct.

PRIORITY LANE UPDATE

We'd like to provide a brief update on the Daintree Ferry Landside Infrastructure Project while construction continues.

The priority lane is currently closed, whilst construction activities are underway.

While every effort is being made to minimise impacts for ferry users, some delays are unavoidable during the construction phase. To help keep traffic moving during this period, a number of measures are in place:

• Birdon is facilitating priority loading for local residents and tour operators where possible, within the constraints of the current site.

• Council staff have been on site monitoring operations and identifying any additional opportunities to improve loading and unloading efficiency.

The priority lane is expected to reopen in approximately one month's time, subject to weather, construction progress and traffic volumes.

These works will deliver improved traffic flow, safer access and a more efficient ferry precinct for the long term.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while these important works continue. Please continue to follow all traffic control directions when travelling through the area to help keep the project moving safely and efficiently.
