Well this is turning things upside down!!

A tour of Tasmania (the home-office of Crafting Slovenia) for Slovenians!
Yes, you read that correctly 😜
Instead of Mary visiting Slovenia, this tour invites Slovenians to visit her and tour the exotic and beautiful island with her, taking advantage of all the local knowledge of special places that she holds.
The entire trip is accompanied by Saša, a local of Ljubljana, travelling with you from Ljubljana to Tasmania. She will also translate for you, ensuring that you have access to the rich information of the tour.

As the artisan responds to new trends and ideas, while maintaining the skills of their ancient craft, so their craft is able to be sustained and continue through to future generations.
Petra has applied her wood-carving skills to create stamps for applying dye to fabric.
What a great new application for her clean and precise carving! You have the potential to ‘wear’ her design on fabric 😊

One guest described the lunch in the forge as being a highlight of the gourmet treats of the tour… Sometimes it’s the simple things that mean the most and create the most authentic experiences…
The meal is that partaken on the forge table, with a newspaper ‘table cloth’, and little wooden skewers for cutlery…
The local sausage made by the neighbour, and a local cheese…

Who looks after you on tour? 🤔

Our local guide is Tea (right hand side). Tea has lived in Slovenia all her life, but travels extensively - hence gaining a perspective to look back to Slovenia from. She is a qualified Cultural Anthropologist. Her knowledge is broad and deep. She is ready to open up all manner of intriguing local details to you!
Mary (left hand side) is an Australian who loves travelling and also crafts. She found the perfect match of her passions by marrying the two together in a curated craft tour. She has been an educator most of her life, facilitating and supporting individuals with various needs to engage, participate and live their best life. She brings this approach to supporting the ‘tour family’.

Many of our guests follow the artisans they have met through their social media sites when they return home from a tour. The ‘working alongside’ provides such appreciation for the artform, and develops such a deep respect for the artisans themselves. Such is the case with Petra Plestenjak Podlogar. ☺️
What a treat to see a gorgous new creation since we left Slovenia. Such an intricate design, and so finely carved! As she describes her new design: Nov vzorec s starim pridihom.

What a treat it was to sit in on a presentation given in USA about my tour!!
To sit in my office in Tasmania, listening and watching slides (through zoom), as activities, delights, gourmet treats and experiences of the most recent 12-day tour were detailed with great enthusiasm by the last group of attendees had me sitting with a huge smile on my face - and in my heart ❤️.

During the tour itself I’m (obviously) quite busy with organisational matters, and don’t have the headspace to fully realise the joy of it all for my guests, and so to sit, all relaxed, and listen to it all, to be reminded and to witness the enthusiasm and joy 4 months on… well!! 😃 😊

The group presenting were members of the Slovenian Union of America. They were sharing their tour experience and joy with fellow-members.
Thank you SUA members for a wonderful hour of reminiscing with you!

The tour takes place annually - every spring. This is a lush and beautiful time to visit Slovenia.

Look who we found hosting one of the stores! The gorgeous Anja Musek, with her equally gorgeous felting work!
During our tour we are lucky to spend time with Anja in a half-day workshop, learning about local fleece and felting…
