Unfortunately H5N1 BIRD FLU has been found in a Victorian bird. The Crested Tern was near Portland.
Crested Terns are wide spread in the Gippsland Lakes (similar to sea-gull with black on its head).
Importantly DO NOT TOUCH any sick, dying or dead shorebirds, as you may spread the flu/virus to other animals including domestic chooks….
If dead or dying shorebird is found, photograph and contact Emergency Animal Disease Hotline 1800 675 888.
