Scenic Rim Aerodrome is a private airfield located at Kooralbyn, an hour drive from Brisbane in the heart of Queensland's Scenic Rim.

✈️ Runway Re-Open

Great news! The runway at Scenic Rim Aerodrome is now open again following recent maintenance works.

Pilots are advised that:

A repaired section is in place and serviceable
A small section remains damaged, and is clearly marked in yellow
Where possible, please track toward the south-western side of the runway during operations.

📍 Reference points:

Minor (damaged) section: approximately 730m from the north-western end.
Repaired section: approximately 880m from the north-western end.

As always, please exercise appropriate caution and conduct a thorough inspection on approach.

⚠️ Temporary Aerodrome Closure

Scenic Rim Aerodrome is currently closed to fixed-wing aircraft, effective immediately, as we carry out essential runway maintenance.

The field will be back open soon, we’re aiming for sometime next week and will confirm as soon as it’s ready.

⚠️ Notice to Pilots – Works in Progress

Earth works are currently taking place on the northern and western sides of Scenic Rim Aerodrome.

All pilots are advised to exercise additional caution when approaching and landing. Please remain vigilant for personnel, equipment, and any temporary changes in ground conditions in these areas.

We appreciate your patience while these improvements are underway and thank you for helping us maintain a safe environment for everyone operating at the aerodrome.

Love this little time capsule ✈️📰

Throwback to 1976, when the Kooralbyn Chronicle announced the opening of the Kooralbyn Air Field, proudly described as the newest in Queensland.

Built to connect the region, support business aircraft, and put Kooralbyn firmly on the aviation map. Big ideas, bold ambition, and the strong belief that aviation connects.

Nearly 50 years on, it’s incredible to see how much of that original vision still resonates today. Same strip. Same location. Same sense of possibility.

History like this reminds us that aerodromes aren’t just about aircraft....they’re about community, connection, and long-term thinking.

SAD! Scenic Rim Aerodrome wants to build our community. We worked with the Men's Shed to plant trees and create a great entry statement to Kooralbyn. So disappointing that a number of our trees have been stolen. Who does this? If one of your neighbours suddenly has three new ivory curl trees, let us know. We'd love to speak with them. ✈️ A Friendly Safety Reminder for Our Kooralbyn Community ✈️

We love seeing the local community enjoying the beautiful surrounds of the Scenic Rim Aerodrome, it’s a special place we’re all proud to share. ❤️

However, we do need to remind everyone that the runway is an active aircraft operating area, not a public walkway or running track. Recently, we’ve seen people jogging with headphones on, and children crossing on scooters on their way to school.

⚠️ This is extremely dangerous. Aircraft can arrive or depart at any time, often much quieter or faster than expected. Pilots have limited visibility on approach, and someone on the runway may not hear or see them coming until it’s too late.

We care deeply about our community’s safety and want to make sure everyone goes home safe each day. Please help us by keeping clear of the runway and surrounding operational areas at all times.

Thank you for your understanding, cooperation, and continued support, together we can keep the aerodrome a safe and welcoming place for everyone. 💙

A big shout-out to the Kooralbyn Men’s Shed for their fantastic help planting our new ivory curl trees along the fence line at Scenic Rim Aerodrome, and to the Kooralbyn Private Fire & Emergency crew for coming out to give them a much-needed watering in! 🚒💧

Your community spirit and hard work are helping us make the aerodrome not only more welcoming, but greener and more beautiful for everyone who visits.
