Tassie does this time of year well, doesn’t she?
We love the light and the autumn colours in this pic of 2052.

It’s also a good time to give you an update on TasRail's Locomotive Life Extension Project (LLEP).
2052 is one of three 2050 class locomotives now completed under the program, with five legacy locomotives still to go. The next locomotive (2006) is on track to come out of the workshop later this year.

What makes this project something we’re particularly proud of?
From skilled trades in our workshops to a wide network of local suppliers supporting everything from small components to complex fabrication, this is a genuinely Tasmanian effort. Along the way, we’ve also been able to grow our workforce and build capability - with our teams gaining valuable experience in completely stripping, rebuilding and re-qualifying locomotive components for the future.

And, in a time where cost of living pressures are front of mind, there’s something powerful about extending the life of existing assets. Rebuilding locomotives is not just practical - it’s sustainable, helping us get more out of what we already have while keeping freight moving efficiently across the state, with the added benefit of buying our business time to properly assess other technologies.

You’ll already see these locomotives hard at work delivering improved reliability and availability for our customers.
A great example of Tasmanian know-how, keeping Tasmania moving.

TasRail honours the resilience, sacrifice and contribution of all Australian military personnel - those who have served, those who still serve, and those who didn't make it home.

We also acknowledge the service of our own past and present military personnel, including reservists, who are part of our workforce.

Today we’re joining rail organisations across the country for Rail R U OK? Day 💛

It’s a reminder that looking after our mental health is just as important as physical safety - and that a simple check-in can make a real difference.

With the extra pressures many are feeling right now, including rising fuel prices and the cost of living, it’s more important than ever to look out for one another.

So today - and every day - take a moment to ask someone, “Are you OK?”

Because small conversations can change lives.

We’re just going to leave this here.

This is one of several near-miss trespass incidents captured by our locomotive cameras over the past couple of weeks.

Our drivers are still reporting what can only be politely described as 'risky' behaviour from members of the public - more often than not involving pushies or e-bikes.

We understand fuel prices are biting, and anything that gets people moving is a positive … but we can guarantee there’s something that hits a lot harder than rising costs.

Please don’t put yourself, our drivers, or emergency services in harm’s way.

Safety first.
Obey the road rules.
Stay out of the rail corridor.
And remember - trains are quieter and faster than you think.

All the best for a happy and relaxing Easter from the TasRail team.

If you're planning a trip away stay safe on the roads, pay attention at level crossings, and always drive to the conditions.

If you're not, we hope you and your loved ones get the chance to enjoy the best that mid-autumn in Tasmania has to offer.

We know how important it is to keep your ducks in a row ...

This was going to be an April Fools post, but it's not - so we'll just call it a Wacky Wednesday post instead... something to make you chuckle perhaps?

Bouquets to the good Samaritan who took the time to herd this flock of geese out of the way while our train was waiting for a crew change near Deloraine recently, much to the delight of group of visitors to Tasmania AND our grateful driver.

Congratulations also to the Samaritan for the safety conscious hi-vis, and to our feathered friends for crossing (relatively) politely at a level crossing.

Fuel prices going up? You’re not alone - we’re hearing it from businesses right across Tassie.

The good news is there’s another way to move freight that’s not only more cost-effective, but better for the environment too … rail.

As Tassie’s own rail network, we’re proud to support local businesses every day - and right now, we’ve got space available on services from Burnie, Launceston, Bell Bay and Brighton.

So if you’re looking for a smarter way to move your goods, let’s have a chat. We’re here to help, no strings attached. Get in touch via [email protected] or call 1300 827 724

There’s plenty happening on Tasmania’s beautiful West Coast!

TasRail Contractor DT Infrastructure is currently working in the Boco area on the Melba Line Trackworks Project, delivering around 1,900 metres of re-railing and 2,900 sleeper replacements.

Work kicked off in March and is expected to wrap up in early May.

These upgrades are part of the Tasmanian Freight Rail Revitalisation Program, funded by the Australian and Tasmanian government, helping keep Tasmania’s freight rail network strong and reliable for its mining customers.

Not a bad office view either - the West Coast certainly delivers when it comes to scenery!

As far as rail contracting challenges go the Rhyndaston Tunnel ballast and rail upgrade was always going to be a biggie.

We were pleased to support the long-term community-led initiative to restore columns to the historic Longford rail bridge, working behind the scenes with the bridge committee, the Northern Midlands Council, and Penguin Composites for more than four years to ensure that the replica columns were fit-for-purpose. https://bit.ly/45YBqYa for more.
