Time on Bikes

Time on Bikes On site by appointment only - please call 0419791186 to book. Great value motorcycle hire for learning, developing, returning and occasional riders.

Time on Bikes is all about helping people to ride motorcycles. It's about making bikes available for riders that fit their skill, experience and needs at the time. We have a moped for car licence holders who want to try the 2 wheel experience. We have little 125 bikes for learners to get experience supervised by a mate, spouse, or parents. We have naked LAMS bikes of various sizes for Licence hol

ders building experience from 125s through to 650s. We're building our fleet to provide a variety of bikes for people deciding what style, size or brand they want to buy. And of course some don't ride often enough to justify owning a bike, but might want to ride every few months or so.

Time on Bikes home soon from the Tennis..

After our last post, Monday’s ride was still a challenge but much easier. With “only” 700 km to ride from Parkes to Melbourne, we had a later start ( breaky then an 8ish departure) and rolled in to Melbourne just on Dusk.

We still had 45 degree temps, but managed with longer stops, ice in jacket pockets, and (un) healthy doses of cold drinks and ice cream.

We headed through west wyalong and our biggest stop was lake Talbot lookout in narrandera and then again at the roadhouse for more ice cream and jacket ice. Then another stop at Jerilderie for more fuel, aircon and food.

Final stop Shepparton for Maccas, fuel and the run into Melbourne, where we tucked the bikes in for a rest - waiting for our next trip.

Tennis was awesome, seeing 5 quarter finals on 2 afternoon sessions. We thought Novak and Lorenzo might make us miss the flight… but a sudden retirement ended the match and we bolted for our flight. Sitting at Melbourne airport now weve had enough buses, trams, and trains for now… ready to come home to play with bikes again. If you’re looking for hire please be patient. Alison needs to line up existing hires for this weekend and sort domestic issues arisen while we were away before getting back to new booking enquiries Saturday Morning.

Cheers and happy riding

Made it to Parkes -super hot ride

The bikes (2025 Ninja 650L & XSR900GP) are having a rest in parkes after the heat… 45 degrees is much better as a lean angle rather than a riding temperature!

Narrabri to Dubbo was mostly 45-46 deg C. The stretch before Gilgandra left Alison with heat exhaustion and we stopped to cool her down and rehydrate and stuffed most of a bag of party ice into all the pockets of her mesh Jacket. It left her soaked, but much cooler for the next leg. She felt like a MotoGP star with their cooled vests at Sepang… If Kawasaki re-enters the MotoGP next year with Alison on a KRT coloured Ninja 650 Lams you saw it here first 😁

We planned today’s ride considering light and fatigue, but the extreme heat caught us out and the recovery time meant we had the risk of wallabies at dusk and difficulty spotting potholes and other road defects for about the last 45minutes.

Our general recommendation for touring is around 600 km (4x 150km stretches) per day or 800km (4-5 x 150-200km) if you really need to cover ground. Today’s 950km effort needed a really early start.. and was only considered to make tomorrow’s ride into Melbourne more workable when we had Saturday customers before we left.

We’ve also learnt that 1 way trips can be an excellent way to limit how much time you need for touring rides. We’ll fly home from Melbourne and planning another ride home soon.

Happy riding! Brooke and Alison

Time on Bikes Gone riding.. to the Tennis

Alison’s Christmas present was some Aussie Open 1/4 final tickets, so obviously we’re riding there. Today is Brisbane to Parkes (just under 1000kms) and highest temp so far is 41 deg C.

Pre dawn run over Toowoomba range was nice and cool, and the bikes are running well as we try out the new Ventura “bonneville” panniers. Lunch at KFC Narrabri now… 400 km to Parkes this Evening, and Melbourne tomorrow.

If you looking for bike hire, leave a message on 0419 791 186 and Alison will get back to you in the weekend. Most bikes already booked for the coming weekend.

Happy riding, and we should have a post soon about another 2 bikes coming in to the fleet

New R7 LAMS at Time on Bikes Motorcycle Hire.

Our brand new Yamaha R7 lams went out on its first hire this weekend. It’s the most sports oriented (riding position) lams bikes we’ve had. With our ninja 650 and CBR650R, (and MT07 )out with mechanical issues after long service lives, the R7 was the next starting point for lams riders wanting to try a sports bike… or the Yamaha lams parallel twin.

It handles nicely, and the riding position is fine for Brooke if you lean forward to keep your arms bent.

With the price of Lams bikes creeping up there, it is priced more than the old 650s at $300/week, $210/3days, $126/1day ( each including 1000km). Our bike rental rates are based on the purchase price of the individual bike, so existing older bikes remain at their old pricing. If you’re a learner, expect for us to see you on smaller/milder bikes first until you’re on RE P or O.

Give us a call on 0419791186 if you want to get some Time on Bikes… currently booked around 3 weeks ahead on most bikes with a few patches of availability in there. Cheers Brooke and Alison

New non-lams bikes at Time on Bikes motorcycle hire

Brooke and Alison were running in our 2 new bikes last week with a day ride to Palmwoods and Back: Brookfield, Keperra, Samford, Dayboro, Mt Mee, Maleny, Montville along the way. A lovely lunch at Poets Cafe Montville and back home via Kilcoy and Somerset Dam.

The Suzuki GSX-8S is a great first non LAMS naked bike and is ready for hire.

The Yamaha XSR900GP is Brooke’s daily ride, but it will also go in the fleet for hire once some Oggy k***s go on it and it gets the first service in the next few weeks. It’s a retro sports bike that handles beautifully, with MT09 mechanicals and cruise control.

Currently we are booked ahead around 3 weeks for most of our bikes, with a few availability patches here and there. Give us a call on 0419791186 if you are looking for some Time on Bikes.
Cheers Brooke and Alison

New Time on Bikes Z500 Learner Bike for hire.

A few chilly rides last week, but our 2025 Kawasaki Z500 is now run in, serviced and out with its first customer. It just squeezed into our $150 per week (inc 1000km) price bracket. ($105 for 3 days, $63 for 1 day).

We’ve been starting to renew our fleet from the bottom up, so it joins the 2023 Ktm 200 Duke ($140/week) and 2024 Honda Hornet 500 -CB500F ($200/week) as part of our “new crew” of bikes alongside our older bikes.

Call us on 0419791186 if we can help you get more “Time on Bikes”. We’re still booked generally a few weeks ahead, so book early to get the best choice of bike. Cheers Brooke and Alison - Time on Bikes motorcycle hire

PS. This photo does not have a fake background. I pulled up on my way home in a local street. The first photo looked even “faker”, so I moved out of the direct reflection… my real shadow on the grass near the front wheel…
