* YVR Commences Rebuild of Two Bridges at Healesville *
YVR is excited to bring you news of one of our current projects, which has just kicked off. We’re rebuilding two bridges at Healesville, which are located between the Watts River and the level crossing at Healesville-Kinglake Rd. We know these as bridge 30 and bridge 31. Both these bridges are overflow bridges, they exist to allow water past the embankment the railway is built on, when the Watts River floods.
Both bridges were at the end of their life, so we’re going to reconstruct them in the same style as most of the other bridges we have reconstructed between Yarra Glen and Healesville. This will involve installing concrete foundations, galvanised steel piers and a recycled rail deck. This construction style brings significant benefit to us, it gives us a bridge that allows us to run any rollingstock we want, it has very low maintenance needs and adds fire resistance.
A reminder that these are active construction sites with no public access; and as per any other time, please stay out of the rail corridor.
If you’re keen to help with the next step, rebuilding the bridges, do get in touch. Many hands make (somewhat) light work! For those keen to know when we’ll be running passenger trains again, we’ll post on our social media and website when we have a date.
