⚠️ COMMUNITY NOTICE: DELIBERATE TAXI FARE EVASION ⚠️

To the female passenger (yes, we know your actual name) who deliberately evaded a $39.87 taxi fare on the night of 2nd June, and a separate female passenger (we also know your actual name) who deliberately evaded a $31.97 taxi fare on 21st May:

!!!!! Both matters have now been officially reported to police. !!!!!

You both know who you are, and all our vehicles are fitted with CCTV security systems recording from multiple angles. If you wish to resolve the matter before further action progresses, please contact us privately via our page as soon as possible to arrange payment of the outstanding fares. If ignored, the matters will proceed through the appropriate police processes and will then be out of our hands.

**Pre-payment Rules:** Drivers are permitted to request estimated fares upfront, particularly for late-night journeys or where previous payment issues have occurred.

It is illegal for a passenger to refuse to pay the authorised fare for their trip, including any applicable surcharges. Deliberate taxi fare evasion constitutes an offence under the Crimes Act 1900 (NSW).

Passengers involved in fare evasion incidents will be placed on a banned/refusal list issued to drivers. Any passenger with unpaid fares owing will be refused transport services until outstanding balances are paid and may be placed on a pre-payment only arrangement moving forward. Deliberate runners will be refused transport services indefinitely.

Please remember that unpaid fares directly impact the drivers who completed the trips and earned that income, not just the business itself, so think about them.

***HOW TO CHANGE THE 13cabs APP TO ALLOW YOU TO PAY IN THE VEHICLE AND NOT ONLINE, ALSO TO REMOVE FIXED PRICING***

If you or someone you are booking for would prefer to pay in-vehicle (cash, EFTPOS, Cabcharge, TTSS cards), here's how to disable fixed pricing and online payments in the app:

- Open the 13cabs app

- Tap the three white lines in the orange circle (top-left corner)

- Tap your profile icon at the top

- Scroll down to “Taxi Subsidy Scheme Member”, change this from No to Yes, then select NSW

This workaround disables online payments and allows fare payment at the end of the trip in the vehicle. It won’t affect whether the user is a or isn't in fact a TTSS member, it’s simply the only method to deactivate online payment.

IMPORTANT NOTE ON FIXED FARES:

If a customer books a fixed fare but then requests multiple stops or diversions, they’ll be asked to cancel the fixed fare once inside the taxi and switch to metered pricing. They won’t be charged twice, as long as the fixed fare is cancelled at the time of the request.

To the Gunnedah community,

Thank you to everyone who's taken the time to comment, especially those supporting us and also including the negative comments as I truly appreciate your feedback as I can use it all constructively to focus on areas needing improvement or that can allow me to be more transparent to the community including why these changes are happening.

We understand there are concerns around pricing, booking, and the new system and I completely understand as anything new becomes concerning to some. Change is not always easy but we have done this to make it better for the community and allow us to work towards building the business up to become more sustainable and help us keep the taxis running in our town.

In regards to the fares, all of our vehicles now operate on Transport for NSW regulated meters. This means pricing is consistent and fair with no more fluctuating fares like many app-based services, though there are options on our apps to choose the fixed pricing so that way it doesn’t change at all, though these fixed prices can only be based from point to point which means no diverting stops in between otherwise you will have to cancel the booking for it to be put on the meter. You can view the fare breakdown on our page. There is a way you can pay cash through the booking app too, we will show the drivers so they can help you if you want that or if you’re passing by our office then pop in.

We know Gunnedah doesn’t have buses running all the time and that transport options are already limited especially for those without a car. That’s why, when the previous taxi service who's owner wasn't from Gunnedah, was going to shut it down in Sept 2022, our family acted quickly to stop our community from being left without any transport and had guidance from Jason & Kerry Bush to help us when we needed help. We bought the business ourselves and have worked non-stop since then to keep it going. We really do put our all into it and especially to keep everything compliant and regulated.

If you are having booking issues, then I do apologise, it will get easier. The 13cabs system is new to us also and may have some initial teething problems but once you’ve done your first booking (by phone or app), the process gets quicker and easier. This new system gives passengers features like driver tracking, app payments, and 24/7 support from the call centre, all while keeping your service locally owned and operated.

If you’ve had delays or no-shows, we’re very sorry as that’s not what we want either. Please message us or call me directly on 0408535083 with the booking time and date so I can follow it up and help prevent it happening again.

On a personal note, our immediate family has lost a loved one to a drunk/drugged driver on the road and that’s hugely part of why we’re so passionate about ensuring this town has safe, reliable transport especially on weekends and late nights. We never want someone to feel like driving under the influence is their only way home and it shouldn’t be.

This is a small family run business, we are not eligible for government funding and no big corporation is behind us, this is all of what we put in to try and make it better. Just locals, working hard every day to keep Gunnedah moving and staying compliant with strict transport regulations. It’s not easy, but we do it because we care, we genuinely care.
